Airsoft Winter Play

hey guy's just a brief question about winter play, just bought a ICS all metal l85,last night is there a special grease needed with a different viscosity, for winter play or do I use silicone, when I was in the military for arctic warfare,we used graphite to lube our weapons, does this apply to AEG's as well thanks...

If your gearbox is properly greased, you should not have to change the grease. I think everyone mostly use lithium grease in a moderate quantity inside the gearbox. That should remain stable at low tempeture. Lower temps will freeze your batteries before your grease seize up.

The only time the cold would have a real effect is if you have a cheap bottom-of-the-barrel Chinese AEG. They often use an excessive amount this thick brown goop to lube the gears, and that stuff gets very hard in winter and can slow down or stop a mechbox. Otherwise, you should be fine.

If you're concerned about battery freeze just use LiPo one.

For fun I made a torture test by putting a fully charged one (Firefox 11.1V 1200 mAh 20C) in the freezer (-20°C) and absolutly no problem with it, just a very slight loss of ROF... but still one a regular Ni-Mh cannot compete with.

Don't ask me why I tried that, geek beyond saving inside
