Quick Pouch Question?

Hey guys,

As I'm building a rig right now and am relatively new, I don't have much experience with different companies for pouches and such.

For mag pouches (rifle and pistol), does anyone know of brands that have detachable/adjustable lids? I know the blackhawk pouches have detachable lids but I don't wanna dish out for those just yet, if there are other manufacturers that have this feature.

I know Condor has pistol mag pouches with the detachable lids, but I'm not sure about their rifle mag pouches. Outside of that, I'm pretty much clueless and it's hard to tell from pictures whether or not they're removable. It's hard to tell sometimes also because the removable lid feature isn't advertised all the time for some reason.

In any case, any first-hand experience from people would be great. Thanks in advance.

One option for a removable top mag pouch is something like this.

The elastic band on the top is removable, and the mag will still stay in place. Or if you want a more secure hold, leave the elastic on, and just push it to the side when you need a mag.

Those pouches are what I use, they're great!

My GOD that was quick!

Thanks for the advice, but I think I'd like to stick to the mag pouches with actual lids on them instead of the elastic retention. I know elastic retention is supposed to be faster and has a lot of support, but not for me for now.

However, I will give it some thought. Any particular brand you stick with, or do you find all/most elastic-retention pouches are on par?

Personally, I like Pantac.

Great bang for your buck. I have some pouches by Pantac, and a few by condor.

They both use the same materials, but the Pantac feels a little more well made, however, the Condor was much cheaper.

Both Pantac and Condor are great bang-for-your-buck for new players.

Unless your super hard-core, real world gear is overkill IMO.

Agreed! I just got a crapload of Pantac in and the belt and pouches seems to be high quality. I have seen reviews elsewhere where Pantac was also chosen over Flyye

I'll take a look into all of those, although the Condor and Pantac ones seem the surest bet. 5.11 Pouches I think are a little more expensive than Condor and Pantac. Also, if I recall correctly Flyye gear is really high priced.

But if you guys know for sure that they've got those removable lids then I'd probably go for whichever of those has it. In terms of dependability, do you guys find a really big difference in wear and tear over say... like a year? Things like stitching coming undone, tears showing up and stuff?
