Hot battery

My brand new out of the package battery gets pretty damn hot when I try to charge it. How much of a problem is this?

oh ! yeah. It's possible a big issue. What brand of the battery is that ? I got an issue one time with some crappy Tenergy battery, it's infect right out the box, doesn't hold a charge and every time that I charge it, it's getting hot very fast than other battery but still didn't hold any charge.

hmm ! that's a good brand and shouldn't have any problem. I suggest you to stop charging right now and getting voltmeter to measure the voltage of battery, if it doesn't hold any charge then that battery is infect. Contact the retailer and return the item.

Define hot? Ideally, find a thermometer, but if you can pick it up without discomfort, I'd say you're ok.

that means its done charging and the energy going into the battery is turning to heat energy. Basically just means its fully charged.

if it gets hot when you fire the gun, that means its exerting too much ampere out of the battery. Basically just straining the battery.

What do you mean? I'm using a smart charger, set on 0.9 A.

I am musing a smart charger. The light turns from red to green when its charged, and its still red.

A Ni-MH battery should NEVER get hot to the touch. It should barely get mildly warm to the touch. In any case, a Ni-MH battery should never get high enough in temperature for you to consider it to be "hot" to any degree.
