This thread is great!
I think I'm a new found gear whore for this type of gear. No wonder I'm spending 200$ each season for a new jacket (not necessary military style). I'm craving a new one in OD!

Bump, seeing how the cold weather is upon us I'm looking for a tactical yet everyday wear soft shell. I already have a TAD GEAR Predator Hardshell but don't use it as much as I like to and would prefer a soft shell. What do you guys use right now and what would you recommend?
I currently have a CONDOR Fleece on the way, and I was going to get the CONDOR Softshell but that doesn't seem like its going to happen anytime soon. Was going to originally get a TAD Gear stealth hoodie before the whole credit card fiasco. I have heard terrible things about BEYOND's QC considering they make custom gear, can anyone verify this? thoughts? Last edited by T_A_N_K; December 10th, 2009 at 01:34.. |

I got the clone PCU from EBB. Tested in for a 4 day hike when it snowed, with a Tru-Spec fleece under it (temperature ~0 celcius), and I was really comfortable. It snowed two days in that, and no problems happened. I also fell a few times on rocks, and the material hasn't any visible damage.
I also did a day-long hike under pretty heavy rain and again, I was dry under the Lvl 5 PCU softshell with the fleece underside. Seriously, for the price... it's great. Now that we've got some real snow, I'll wear it for the coming days and will see how it performs before my upcoming january 5-days snowshoe hike.

I just got a CONDOR Softshell from warfighter (My size was one of the only ones to actually come in) this jacket is FANTASTIC.
I wore it outside today in -25 weather... Everything else on me was frozen solid, but whatever the jacket was covering stayed nice and warm (I was outside for only about 10-15 minutes) I'd highly suggest waiting for the jackets to come in to war fighter, they're fantastic. |

Picked this up over the summer. A real nice softshell, and you can get the same jacket at a camping gear store for less than the LEAF stuff goes for.

Tru Spec has a nice (and inexpensive) fleece jacket/liner for $20 USD. Comes in Black, Brown, and Foliage.
http://www.uscav.com/milmall/Product...roductid=10836 I have both the brown and foliage and they are great liners. They even have a lining in the shoulders and top front so they don't snag on velcro on ACU type uniforms. |

I have been wearing the TAD Stealth Hoodie Reloaded since October and I love it. I usually get cold easily but with this, I noticed that I am not wearing as much layers as I used to. It also breathes quite well in my opinion, have kept me dry in pouring rain and kept the wind out.
It's too bad that uscav.com switched to FedEx as the $20 TRUSPEC fleece has $53 shipping to Canada.

I have been running Misty Mountain for the last year or so. No velcro, and the chest pockets are useless with a rig, but honestly, I have enough pockets and velcro on my rig to suit my purposes.
Waterproof and breathable, warm as fuck. So far I have been at a winter game and out and about for at least 6 hours with only a thin (issue) green polypro underneath it. They also make a non waterproof zip in softshell + waterproof harshell combo I picked up a few weeks ago. Awesome kit and available in militaryesque colors. Made in Canada.

Yeah, we are the same size physically. I ordered the XXL so I can l layer up. Fits quite loose on its own that I think I could fit in XL.
I ordered directly from them with $28 shipping. Took a week to get here but unfortunately customs decided to add $95. I was affected by the hack and Visa actually noticed it before TAD did.

I know this thread is titled to include fleece and soft shells but I would separate the tactical fleece outerwear products from tactical soft shell products, for the purposes of this discussion. They are essentially two different things, especially their performance in our climate. Soft shells do what pure fleece outerwear does not: fleece is neither wind-proof, waterproof, nor abrasion resistant and instead it actually absorbs rain, water, slush, and snow. Some soft shells have integrated fleece lining and in that application (under the soft shell fabric) fleece can be useful.
Besides the models/manufacturers that have already been listed, I would add the: SORD Hardface Jacket and Integrated Combat Equipment (ICE) Soft Shell Jacket. While not a recommendation of either product, they fit the category. W4 |

I see what your saying, however I wasn't the original thread maker :P I have owned a SORD jacket and there CS is beyond terrible. The QC of the their products are hit and miss. I would not buy from them again. ICE is a good option, they had bad CSR for the longest time, but have recently turned things around. I haven't ordered from them recently but from my most recent experiences they are back on the ball. But the jackets are only made in Multicam/TW/AR and I want something every day use.

Been wearing my TAD V5 Ranger last couple days (-20ish). Good to good.
Love the hood design, and the other small details. 40 shipping (ranger, raptor, explorer halfzip, lightspeed), but only got hit for GST, $50 (oh right, are you guys charged PSTs on imports too?). Haven`t tried their softshells though. Had a SORD Hardface. It wasn't bad. T_A_N_K didn't you order with me? What happened with their CS. It was pretty good when I did the order.
