Uh oh... perhaps you didn't notice this but you are fueling everyone's inner compulsive gambler. ASC has combined 2 expensive and addictive elements into the ultimate vice: gambling for airsoft.

I'll get some chairs in a circle, put on some coffee, and register the support group; I'll need to get a head start on this epidemic.

You have to retrieve your trap anyway, so why not make something effective instead? get a loud buzzer and a bright light (like 9v xenon), and have the tripwire set THAT off.

That'd probably work better... button activated would be easiest, so just set a spring with a pin that's pulled by the tripwire, the spring pushes the button, make it a momentary switch so it has to stay pushed to activate it, thus the spring works the way it should, then the button is pushed, buzzer goes off so does light.

You need something that simple, it'd work great, you just need to add in a buzzer or something more obvious than a little lightbulb. But yes, it can be that simple.

what's a cloth pin? The thing you attach cloth diapers with? If it's that, I don't see how it can be used as a switch.

That's what a clothespin looks like. See how it's hinged, you would put it so that it closed when the trap was tripped, completing the circuit

mind you that one is metal and they're typically just wood.

I'm glad to see the DIY spirit alive and well. The only thing I would be concerned about would be the reliability of hombrew devices as compared to this widget. The unit is field tested and likely reliable in an adverse array of conditions.
It is just lacking in bang, thats all.

Or just buy a rape alarm. Its pull pin and lets out the most annoying sound ever. Just tape it or tie it to something run some tring from the pin to a tree and voila a effective and annoying trap.
