NSN – 8465-20-001-2864

Don't worry though, you'll probably never see this ruck since it's all but been binned.

Source?

I only ask because;

a) I was involved in the final trials on this item back in Feb (workup trg and a BFT).

b) "In contracting" means "sourcing a manufacturer".

Here in Kingston we have a shortage of the 82 pattern rucksack, as there are no more in the system to be had. This is a familiar pattern by now with kit that is being replaced, and generally means that within a year the new item should be avail. Same goes for gasmask carriers, being replaced so the old ones are not being made/ordered, hence shortage.

Actually no, it isn't. If you can find one, get your hands on a '64 pattern ruck. Best ruck ever.

I actually sent an email to CTS asking for detailed pictures of the ruck and they replied saying that they had replaced it with another trial rucksack. I took that to mean that they binned the one on their website.

One way or the other, I won't be holding my breath for it :( I'm happy enough with my patrol pack for now anyways.

How many RF/Res actually use the patrol pack or the rucksack anyway? With all the high speed pack available in Cadpat TW these days, it would be interesting to know how many still use the issue stuff.

Even with nice day packs, you still need a ruck. Guys just customize the issued stuff with different sholder/waist straps or use a jump ruck.

Seen, it is taller, more like an alpine ruck - I wish I hadn't deleted the pics I took :(

anymore on these sacks?

Polo609 October 22nd, 2007 15:23

I still use the rucksack. It sucks, but for the moment we are still using it. (N Sask R reservists), right now Im looking into getting the 64 ruck but no one below cpl has it..lol so..i dunno.

Blackthorne October 22nd, 2007 15:55

I have the 64 and the 82 and WAY prefer the 82 for a big (80+) loads.

If it doesn't have a fucking metal frame it shouldn't be called a ruck.

Just looking at the 2864 gives me shivers. It's already tall, where the fuck are you supposed to tack on your bag and air mattress? Put those on the bottom and the damn thing will be 5 feet tall :D

The sleeping bag system goes in the bottom section (it's a compressable stuff-sack like portion built in); as for the thermarest no idea. But since I still use the 'ole "rubber woman" I suppose I'd just fold it and put it in the stuffsack portion first.
