Check hunting shops, maybe surplus stores...

I know at work we've got rolls of hessian for scrim...so if you have a buddy in the CF you might be able to score some strips.

Amos January 10th, 2010 18:23

Canadian Tire

They sell them as winter tree covering, they already have a mild flame retardant on them too :) (but I would still HIGHLY suggest soaking them in a flame retardant)

Franky911 January 10th, 2010 20:22

I am in the CF , and I've never heard of that ! :)

I'm looking for something already dye doubt any idea ?

I'm also speaking about 2 inches rolls....

Sully January 10th, 2010 22:17

Some surplus stores may carry the rolls. Another option is to head to a fabric store such as fabricland. you can get dyed burlap by the meter and it's about 1-1.5 meters wide for $6-8/meter and then you just have to cut your own strips. That's the route I went for the ghillie I am building right now as well I used strands of jute twine that I dyed myself.

Check with your unit QM, they should have big fuck off rolls of hessian in a couple different colors, usually brown, tan, green and black. IIRC the strips are 2" wide.

The is no such thing as doing it all by yourself.
Already dyed kits are more expensive than the whole setup you could make yourself.

Buy some burlap roll at any Rona, ot CT. Cut them in 10 inchs squares, spray paint them with Krilon (OD for brown) and Brighter green to make green. Tan is the base color of the jute. And attach it to your ghillie netting.

The pray part is fast and simple. The gutting of the strand take longer and is messyer. But it's worth it.

Franky911 January 11th, 2010 10:46

Dying burlap will be difficult especially because I'm leaving in a room with lots of rules :) .

Still searching for 2inches rolls of burlap already dye....

Frank

FOX_111 January 11th, 2010 12:33

You can't go out with your burlap and spray paint and do it?

If there is that much rules, they won't let you do the work inside, since it's messy and require terrow vacum cleaning with a Shopvac.

You're in the shacks aren't you?

Just go for a picnic sometime and take your rolls and ghillie net with you :D

Franky911 January 11th, 2010 15:37

yeah the shacks.... I've been there for a while.... !

Picnic at minus 15 ....

CDN_Stalker January 11th, 2010 16:01

Why not pay someone to buy/dye the burlap for you? Am sure someone can do it, then mail it to you.

Franky911 January 11th, 2010 16:25

I'm thinking about taking that

http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/brows...or%2BFloor.jsp

but I think that will be too dark

FOX_111 January 11th, 2010 21:13

And it probably curl up on itself and be unusable on a ghillie if you cut it in strands.
