hmm... sucking distance..

Ok, i just got my maddbull tightbore 6.03.. and my gun is brutal for shooting distance. I looked around the forums breifly and didnt find what i wanted. I am lucky if i can hit 60 feet and i have to aim pretty high. I was using .25's and i just wasnt impressed with the difference of the barrel(it wasnt all that much more accurate than my stock one :S). I lubed the barrel and it did not do too much. Is it my mechbox or what? Little bit pi$sed off at whats going on. *note to self, never use a sniper scope on a stock AEG haha. What can i do to get the extra distance? Thanks

T_A_N_K September 10th, 2008 19:33

Let me get this right, your gun is stock except for a tightbore and your shooting 25s? 60 feet is about right since your probably only shooting at 250 fps.

Upgrade:
- spring to a M100/110
- plastic bushings to metal bushings
- plastic spring guide to metal unit

Try using a lighter caliber

airborne1 September 10th, 2008 19:40

Shoot with the wind. 60 feet is about right for what you got.

frontlinesniper September 10th, 2008 19:45

k cool. I'll get a complete new upgraded gearbox. But as far as accuracy goes... how come its not much different than my stock barrel? Is it due to the stock gearbox?

Skladfin September 10th, 2008 19:52

are you sure you assembled it right?

Yea, its the sleeve is flush with the barrel and when in the hop up it looks fine.

You're getting a completely new gearbox when you could just spend $50 and upgrade some parts?

Maybe he has the budget for it and in the long run it can save some headaches if the original parts upgrades aren't shimmed properly (etc...).

Drache September 10th, 2008 21:27

or you get headaches with bore up kits or whatever?

And you've made sure the nub is in fine? Those can be pesky.

Thats the truth! I finally sent mine to a gun doc to get everything put back together! Of course at the same time he swapped out my hopup and hopup rubber :D

Ktown Militia September 10th, 2008 22:39

what kind of bb's are you using. After installing my tightbore (madbull 6.03) .25bb bastards were spraying everywhere. Switched to metal tech and it was a huge difference. just my 2 cents.

Lighter BBs equals less effective range.

yea, i dunno exactly what to do because i'v never taken a gearbox apart. It might be cheaper to buy the parts but then i'd have to pay to get it to a gun doc or something... unless there's a local that can do it for cheaper... Oh and i was using bb bastards .25. I have some madbull .25's aswell so i'll switch to those asap.

Skladfin September 10th, 2008 23:50

ill take a look at it if you want, $20(gun doc fee) + shipping($15)

Learn if you want. It's a good skill to have and not hard at all if you're mechanically inclined (even if you aren't, it will just take some more time). The net is full of guides.

Switching BB's (at least these two brands at the identical weight) theoretically won't help your range, albeit if you're using really shitty quality BB's the flight path will be better as it'll bounce around the barrel more evenly and will spin more regularly out of the hopup.

One other thing to consider isn't just the tightbore but the hopup rubber itself. A good hopup rubber of an appropriate hardness can make all the world in long distances; a shitty soft rubber with a hotter gun won't give you enough hop to lift the bb to the distances needed. And judging (just entirely guessing here) by your avatar, you have an M4; a one-piece hopup unit can help as well.

But for some decent increases in range, clean your barrel and hopup, get a slightly hotter spring (with metal bushings and metal spring guide to prevent excessive wear and tear) and if necessary a better piston head/nozzle/cylinder head for improved compression.

When you replaced the inner barrel, did you ensure you installed the brass stabilizer ring?

I've seen too many people install inner barrels only to leave it out, (especially when using mad Bull Black Pythons, as they are a little thicker on the outside diameter, and most people cant get the brass ring on).

If you don't have the stabilizer ring, your inner barrel and hop up are not forming a complete seal and you are losing air pressure each time you fire a BB.

Double Tapper September 11th, 2008 11:31

What is this brass ring you are talking about?,I didn't see one on
my gun when I had it apart, though doesn't mean it is not there.

Ktown Militia September 11th, 2008 13:49

hang on, i'll post vid...

trevor September 11th, 2008 14:33

I had brutal results with the madbull tightbore. I would try a systema 1.

Ktown Militia September 11th, 2008 15:00

heres a step by step inner barrel and hop up assembly I just made

Ktown Militia September 11th, 2008 15:08

I also forgot to mention to give your barrel a good cleaning after as well. Use a light silicon oil that is plastic and rubber compaitble, and proper cloth and cleaning rod. Keep cleaning until, there is nothing coming out, or nothing left on the cloth.
