Neat - PTW Hopup for M4 AEGs
YouTube - AirsoftPRESS Video: DEEPFIRE new hopup system for M4 AEG
Some people say the PTW hopups are the best...some say it's the worst. Mine works really well...but I've only every had the on and it was 3 cushioned by McGuyver (a la Tackelberry). So...not saying this is the best/worst/other....it's just neat. (ps...I thought Bean was supposed to post this stuff...) Tys |

This can be modded the same way the PTW one can.

I would love to try that out.
However some asshole glued the screws into my threaded body pins of my M4. I may just have to drill them out for this.

Do you mean your receiver pins or the delta ring? Try acetone (nail polish remover) to break down the glue and go hulk on the screw.

I figure this will probably cost around 100-160 dollars depending on the quality and make of the components. |

Remember, a PTW inner barrel is 10mm OD as opposed to 8mm for an AEG barrel. You won't be doing any easy retrofit if this new unit is 10mm.

No, I mean I have threaded king arms locking pins and some jack ass put glue in them as a practical joke. I haven't been able to open my receiver for nearly a year now.

What exactly makes the PTW hop-up better?

Again...not saying it's better or not...
The PTW has a cage with a rubber encased "bar" (the roller) at the 12 o'clock position. Imagine a ring. That ring is pushed down by rubber cushions...so continuous downwards pressure is exerted. As the BB gets chambered it's just in front of the roller. As air forces the BB out, the roller is forced upwards by the BB passing under it (but the roller is still being pushed down by the rubber cushions). The roller rides up the BB as it's squeezed through and applies spin to the BB. As the BB passes just past midway under the roller, the roller rides down the BB and keeps applying spin. SystemA puports that this way of applying spin is more consistent and effective vs. the static "squishy bump" of regular hopups. Somewhere on SystemA's PTW site (might be in the manual) there's a step by step pictorial description. |

In a standard AEG, the hop-up bucking applies pressure to the sleeve, which applies pressure to the BB. The BB squashes the sleeve againts the bucking. This system has limits as to the longevity of the sleeve as well as how much pressure can be applied. Basically, the BB does most of the work.
In a PTW, the cage (which is a moving structure and has mass) in forced down by the cushions applying pressure to the bottom of the inner barrel. The BB is forced against the roller on the cage during firing, forcing the whole cage to move up and the roller to pass over the BB from about the 10:00 to 2:00 (depending on setting) positions rather uniformly. This gives the BB a huge amount of spin, so much so that you can fire a PTW with full-on hop (with the modified system) with 0.30g BBs at the ground 10 feet in front of you and the BB will not hit the ground. And you can do it for many thousands of rounds. In an AEG, you would have to change that sleeve a few times due to wear. The moving mass of the cage is fixed, and will also moderate some stray forces due to it's own inertia. I would venture to say that even most PTW owners do not understand the opeartion of their hop-up, and I have seen how some do not even set it to maximize it's potential. Add to this that to change an adjuster cage takes minutes (if you know what you are doing), and has the potential to be modified in alot of different ways.
