ver 3 mech box 6mm, 7mm, 8mm, or 9mm bearings?
ok this is a question that i hope will help others i see alsorts of mech boxes out there ver 3 is the one i am most interested in as there on all my aegs but i want to upgrade now the question what mech box to get and then what size bearing and why ? whats better ? i know everyone says sytema but i'm not that rich lol .. and i can more afford putting one together a bit at a time ? or do i go with a d-boys stock full built for 53us on ehobbyasia and modify it think it would allow for a 6mm bearing to be put in using this on a g36c with plans on a 11v lithium so want to build something decent that will run fast and reliable ? ok and going to go looking whats the diff on high speed gears and the super torque up ones .. i don't plan to run more than 350 fps for indoor and 425 out door why i plan to have 2 mech boxes in the end
help please and thank you

Do not use bearings. Use solid metal bushings.

Not trying to be a jackass, but if you can't answer those questions, you'd best not try to build a gearbox from scratch. Buy a pre-built one instead. You'll save time, and a whole lot of money in broken parts.

And not to mention that building a mechbox from scratch is difficult even for experienced users.. The headaches involved are NOT worth it, unless you REALLY know what you're doing.

i have torn down and rebuild my mech boxes with out problems so far i am just wanting to know about the differnt sizes and if there just something to get people to pay more for something they don't really need .. eg: a gimmick and i hear both bearing better and bushing better going to try one of each just want to know about the sizes i keep seeing

Many mechboxes are coming out with factory 7mm and 8mm bearings...7mm bushings are available...haven't seen any readily available 8mm bushings (hopefully soon).
Personally, I don't see the difference between well made 6mm and 7mm bushings. I suppose the Dboys mechboxes are getting better...the first couple of generations of them were pure junk. In the end you need to decide what you want to do... - fastest ROF - high FPS - most durability You can't have all 3 without spending a lot of money on top end parts (which will add up to more than a Systema complete mechbox)...and even then, top end parts fail. They're suppose to last longer/perform better...but airsoft is airsoft. Torque up gears are not necessary for low FPS setups...and 420-ish is not high power. A good set of stock ratio gears will work fine (perhaps not if you're going for ultra-high ROF stuff at 400fps+ levels). There's a lot of other factors in building a good mechbox other than plunking in a set of gears, picking a spring and having at it. Consider a mosfet if you're into the 9.6v+ range... |

aka SNK or Shaniqua

KWA says otherwise. Their 9mm bearing bushings are absolutely insane and give you some of the best ROF in the business

Use the biggest bearings you can get. I'm not sure if the terminology I'm using is correct (History teacher, not engineer here), but the reason is that the larger the bearings, generally the more more load (spring tension) they can handle. That's why 6mm bearing fail more often, especially under higher-tensioned springs. So get an 8mm gearbox and buy Kanzen bearings - those are the best bearings you can buy. http://www.kanzen-bearings.com/kanzen.html

I've never seen or heard of solid bushings failing. |

You've never seen or used the ICS bronze ones, then. Too soft...under high load, the axle holes are worn away and enlarge.

I just took a look at some 8mm bearings and the balls are very exposed compared to 6mm or even 7mm. I'd worry about lubrication. And dust and shavings getting in there.
Never had a bushing fail. Always used good ones though.

I am using 8mm Kanzen bearing bushing on one of my gearbox and I am running Li-po for a year and a half. No wears on my internals.
I got a Systema Ver 2 gbox 9mm bearing bushing coming next month. Specially modified for me by a friend who is in HK. |
