Coming from Florida to Toronto.
Hi guys,
So this is my first post after HOURS and HOURS of reading....I have a few quick questions to ask. I am from Mississauga but I have spent the past 6 months in Florida, and I will be here for another 4 weeks before coming back. I was introduced to airsoft here and play once or twice a week and I am interested in playing once I return. Even though I am 28 there is no way for me to become age verified from here in Florida....(Unless one of you is coming down to the Tampa area, in which case PM me!) So here are a few things I am wondering if you could help me it would be great.... What SHOULD I buy while I am here? I have no idea what stuff costs in Canada, but I hear it is much more expensive...even with the exchange rate...I checked online, places like craigslist dont have much, and I cant view the classifieds on here because I am not AV. I have been using my friends JG G36C and MB05 Sniper...Both are great guns...How much would something like that cost in the Toronto area? I know I cant bring the guns back, but if they are affordable I would like to get accessories/vest/etc now if there is a big difference in price... Also what type of gear do people wear in the GTA for games? It seems like people everywhere have different stuff. I do not want to look out of place, but with all the surplus stores here I cant imagine it being cheaper in Canada. Basically I just want to know...for someone starting out, who has nothing really...What should I buy from the USA while I am here before I drive back? And what is better off bought in Canada. Thanks. |

Anything works really. I would probably go grab a set of Woodland and Desert Tri Colour, Boonies and boots to match, and your set. Wear what works for you and what you think is comfortable. As for guns, a JG G36C would probably cost you around 300-350 CDN, yeah it sucks in Canada. I would recommend probably ordering online from retailers like redwolfairsoft, wgc.com, uncompany.com and have items delvierd to your US address and then bring them to Canada. You would save on duties and taxes by a long shot, or just go to a local place. For a reference of pricing, I would click on the sponsor adds at the top to get an idea of what the availability of items are here. Expect to pay double if not triple the prices you see in the US once in Canada.
Buy all your gear in the US. The surpluses down there don't even compare to ours in terms of equipment availability. Check out the Themed airsoft section for ideas on kit. There is a really good Navy Seals and Canadian Section. Last edited by T_A_N_K; March 24th, 2009 at 03:20.. |

OMG $300-$350 for each gun? What about used? How much would someone sell that kinda thing for...I was looking on craigslist here and I could buy both for $200. ($260 CDN)
http://tampa.craigslist.org/psc/for/1074741477.html Is there anything I should stay away from equipment wise? Thanks. |

Buy mid to high quality gear cheap stuff won't last as long. And everybody is different so we can't tell you exactly what will work for you. I've seen some JG used guns go down to $250ish but that's as good as it gets and you need to be talented with airsoft internals to get those working right. Up here you'll need to spend mucho mullah on even mid qualitly guns.

In Canada, if you can't fork over at mimimum $300 for a used gun or $350 for new, then you've got garbage. Even for these prices, you're looking at something like JG. JG are easily the better Chinese clones, but they're still not exactly considered a high end gun.
So in short, get all the gear that you need while you're in the US. Then when you get back to Canada, make arrangements for age verification and get your gun here. That's really your only option.

It seems like you guys dont think to highly of the JG guns...Where (besides this forum) do you go for reviews and information?
Magazines? Websites? I searched google and everyone had amazing things to say about the gun...I liked it when I played, but I have only used that, the MB05 and an M14. These are some of the sites I looked at: http://www.airsoftretreat.com/review...hp?product=159 JG/Echo 1 G36C Review - Airsoft Ohio Forums youtube..search JG G36c. Maybe these are not the best sources....but let me know where you guys look. Thanks so much for your help...I am looking forward to shooting everyone when I get back. LoL |

I personally think quite highly of JG guns for the price. However, I also realize that there's a lot more of a chance of failiure with one than with a high end gun like Classic Army or G&P. However, considering the JG is $350 and the CA / G&P equivalent will cost upwars of $650, it's a matter of getting what you pay for, really.
That being said, I've put my JG guns through hell that would have probably killed most other guns, and they've performed flawlessly. Whether I got lucky or that's a common trait with JG, I don't know.

Don't get us wrong, JGs are the most common guns up here, i sold my TM aug so i could get a JG 416 BUT there is a higher chance with JG that you will have failures. My 416 was perfect till i started messing around inside it, now it's amazing again though.

I hope by that he meant parts and gears.
For now just pick up parts and gears. Gun you'll get in Canada. Heres an approximate price list though (all in CAD) PTW (used): $2000+ Kraken: $140-180 TM: $500+ JG: $350+ G&G "Combatmachine": $300+ G&G: $450+ Prices will vary depending on what's in the package and upgrades. As for mine I got "lucky" (if you could say that) and picked mine up for $450 (No accessories). EDIT: While you're down there pick up gear and equipment from surplus stores or whatever. You can bring all that stuff back. You can also bring things like Rails, optics, and upgrade parts back, just don't try to bring back restricted/prohibited parts. Some stuff to get while in the US: Boots Vest/Chestrig Mags (except the clear ones with visible dummy rounds) Pouches for said Rig External accessories

Thanks for all the advice guys...I have been shopping around and checking out all the stuff I need...I will be ready to go for when I get back!!
One thing I have a question about is BBs. Because airsoft is a gray area, are BBs hard to find in Canada? How much should I expect to pay for 1000? 2000? 5000? Is it work going onto ebay and buying from there? Thanks. |

BB's are easy to get, heck they're available at Canadian Tire and Walmart. NEVER BUY THOSE. They are made with seams and will chew up your hop up and inner barrel.
The ones you should be looking at are BB Bastard (Canadian made) which a lot of players swear by. Good BB's will be seamless and should not have air bubbles in them or minimal air bubbles. A bag of 2000 BB Bastards should run you something like $10.

Price of BBs depend on their weight. .2 and .25g BBs (most commonly used) are generally $10 + shipping for a bag of 2000. Higher weights will cost more. Typically, .28 will run about $15 for 2000. .3 and above are typically more expensive.

hmm i also got a question...since me and my dad are planning to go back to N.Ireland for holiday this summer, we'd go to my dad's friends house where he left all his airsoft gear, he wanted to know if he could remove the gear box from his M4 S System TM and bring it back here to Canada, would that be possible or would it be seized?
