Laws concerning age...

I was just wondering about age laws. I know that you have to be 16 or older to buy a gun legally but how old do you need to be to own one. This is for a friend to come play with my group so a quick answer would be great.

Thanks

If you're talkign about airsoft, there is no law preventing anyone from buying or owning a gun (as long as it's a Canadian-legal gun with clear receiver) in Canada except Ontario. Ontario has a provinicil law banning the sales of air guns / imitation firearms to minors.

However, reputable stores across Canada won't sell air guns to a minor. And if you intend to play airsoft games, the minimum age is 18 and that's a rule enforced by the airsoft community, not a law.

alright thank you my friend will be happy to know that. You won't have to be worry about under 18 players playing with others in the community.

You can buy one anytime theres no law preventing you from doing so, heck you could probably walk into a store if you were 8 and buy one. THAT BEING SAID. Whether they're going to sell to you or not is a different story. Most stores have policies of selling only to people 18+. The only place where it's really illegal is Ontario due to a provincial bylaw (18+ to purchase an air gun).

Also SOME and only SOME clubs/teams will allow 16+ with parental waiver (eg. I know JOC, Op-For, and BCAC allow 16+ with waiver). It's a general rule of thumb that once you're 18+ you're good to go anywhere.

This is pretty of topic, but L473ncy I saw your in the BC region, and Op-for will allow 16+ wit a wavier, I was wondering, is there any summer game in July? I'd like to make it out to one, if I could get my parents to drive there.

check out the event forums. there will always be summer games scheduled for you to either check out or join. I can't say for certain about BC, but in Ontario for a minor to play, a legal guardian must be present to sign your waiver as well as be responsible for you. Get one of your parents interested in the sport and shoot side by side with them. Family bonding. Can it get any better?

Well I'm not technically "part" of Op-For per-se, I haven't played a game with them yet. BUT I've talked with some of the admins in the club and from what I understand it's 16+ with waiver signed at the field.

I know that was the deal with the NV field (I asked specifically about that field and if my younger 16 year old brother could play in the summer).

I'll be in Van in the summer so I might see you at a game there.

I'd rather minors playing with veteran ASC community members at proper fields than on their own in public parks or in the streets.

While I would never verify a minor, I have nothing against showing them the ropes and allowing them to try out my equipment while under direct supervision in a controlled environment. You kids can come hang with us cool dudes at the back of the bus any day!

Ive tried getting my parents involved... Well Kinda My parents are divorced, and I live with my mom, she thinks it's kiinda dumb. As for my dad, I don't talk to him very often, because I don't get along very well with him. I ussualy end up arguing with him when I talk to him. But it could be worth a try to give him a call and see what he thinks.

Op-for does allow 16/17 year olds to play, games are every week pretty much on every saturday at Panther Paintball (the field we play at)
I believe BCAC plays on sundays at the same field however I am unclear on their age rules as I preffer to play on saturdays, but from what I remember from a few years ago their rules were slightly different and your parent had to actually play in the game with you if you were under 18.

However to come and play if your 16/17 at Op-For you need a legal guardian or parent to sign the waiver in front of a game admin to allow you to play for the day... after thats done they can leave for the day and pick you up later when the game is done

Ill definitly try to get out to a game, it would be a lot easyier if I could get find a way to get along with my dad and go to a game with him. But Im not sure if he'd think it's stupid or fun... If he doesn't want to I'll try and get my mom to take me.

Think of it this way, for you it could be an ulterior motive for a couple of reasons. First you'll get to spend time with him doing something which could help your relationship or second you'll end up on opposite teams and you can shoot the hell out of him even if he calls his hits!
