What was the rifle infantry used before they were issued C7?

Don't forget the SMG, yeah the C8 replaced it but it was still a great little gun to fire.

Especially after STAR WARS came out... it was the standard sidearm of the STORMTROOPERS

Awesome little gun for CQB ( Even with the mag out the side )

I think there are a couple of differences between the C7/C8 than the American M16/M4's I’m not sure though.....going to google.
