Marui Steyr Aug replacement gearbox...

Hello,

I recently stripped a screw on a Marui Version 3 gearbox in my Steyr Aug; proud moment.

A friend of mine offered me a King Arms Version 3 Gearbox as a gift which I of course accepted; however upon quick inspection I found that the opening at the front of the gearbox is much smaller then needed to properly engage with the AUG's hopup so I returned it, thanking him but of course; I could not use it without altering the hopup... which I felt might cause problems down the road.


Now my problem; I realy liked the idea of a 8mm bearing gearbox.

Apparantly UNCompany offers it as an upgrade serivce when you buy an AEG from them, however I've as of yet not heard back from them if I could simply order it with a TM V.3 Replacement shell. ( believe its a mod to the stock part... I could be mistaken. )


Although it begs the question; is there an AUG compatable 8mm bearing gearbox shell out there... or is it AK/G36 compatable stuff
only ( King Arms ).

I guess if all else fails there is always the CA 7mm Shells... but I'de realy like 8 if possible lol

Haven't ever seen an AUG gearbox other than the TM one.

Umm, bearing bushings suck ass. For a lot of gears they really fit on tight, good luck getting them off. That includes stock TM gears. And I've seen a couple bearing bushings (8mm included) size and also fall apart when you take them off the gear. Totally not worth anything those P.O.S. things.

Yeah bearings are not so good. I dont see how there could be a mod job for a marui box (6mm) to 8mm bearings either. That is a ton of work and surely costs more then a replacement gearbox shell. In regards to the one your friend offered and you had said you didnt want to modify the hopup why not just modify the front of the gearbox so it fits the aug hopup?

Strange. In general a V3 gearbox is a V3 gearbox. I have a TM AUG, JG G36, a STAR UMP and a CA AUG mechbox and all mechboxes are the same. I've never seen one that was specific to a particular model. Are you sure it wasn't just some excess material/casting flash in the opening that you could trim out with an exacto?

I've had good experiences with bearings for high speed setups, nothing but trouble above 1j though I admit; Although my experience is limited to prometheus 6mm and systema 7mm only.

Those king arms mechboxes definatly have issues with cast flash ( the provided bearings would not have even fit into the box without exacto modification lol... ) but the excess material surrounding the nozzel was definatly not cast flash... It was a few extra mm of material easily; and the box said " For AK47 and G36 series only; excluding the MP5k and AUG I guess.

I'll likely end up with a tried and true TM replacement running 6mm bushings; but I do like bearings in low fps/high rof set ups... mostly for the ever so slight reduction in motor wine and gear noise; which makes a decent difference when your ear is less then half an inch from your mechbox.

The application of some decently thick 100% pure silicon oil now and then will also improve bearing longevity.
