ICS M4A1 split mech box

After putting in some upgraded parts, re shimming, etc. i put the AEG back together and test it out..nothing happens.

Now i usually figure these things out, but im completely out of ideas.

Testing out the bottom part of the mech box (split mechbox) i pull the trigger on semi and sparks fly from the trigger, the gears dont move and the wires get really hot.

The shim job is perfect so i have no idea whats going on and theres no spring since its just the bottom part...

Thank you for your support.

err, hmm, how big of sparks? does the trigger assembly look melted/fryed... what size battery, fuse? motor adjusted right, u said shimming is good, so the gears spin freely with no motor?

wires all good, no shorts, cuts, ect...

ur right, thats somethin.

suggestions to check:
wiring correct?
check for something causing shorting.
take the motor out of mechbox and pull trigger to check if it is spinning correctly?

try not to kepp pulling trigger or you may kill your battery

With the motor in the gun, you should be able to turn the sector gear. It will be a little stiff, but easily done. You'll hear the AR latch (as well as see the release) click positively when this is being done. If you can do this, then likely your shimming is fine.

If you can run the motor outside the gun, and your polarity is correct, then the issue is likely not the motor. But beware, I've had 2 cases, one as recently as this fall, with Turbo 2000 motors being improperly labeled at the terminals, where the red mark for (+) was actually the negative terminal, and the unmarked terminal was the true (+).

how sure are you with the shimming? You have to test it first yourself (without the motor) and check if it moves freely. <--- BTW, with the gearbox is closed.

Mcguyver you were correct:P

The issue: the polarity on the motor was reversed...I had to put the black wires to the positive side and the red ones to the negative side.

I will probably open up the motor to flip it around to avoid future confusion.

Now another issue comes up. I shoot it in semi once, and it does 3 shots. I shoot it again in semi, does 2-3 shots. I shoot it for a third time and its now it acts as if it was in safe mode. I go to full auto to fix this and then the cycle repeats.
I am assuming its the anti reversal latch messing up. Plus this mech box has the anti-reversal latch with the long arm attached to it.

Any suggestions?

The little "yaw bar" as ICS calls it, or the semi-auto cut-off bar for everyone else, may not be disengaging the switch. This is either from it being broken, the selector plate spring is missing, or the sector gear is not engaging it. That yaw bar is just a little bit different dimensionally than what everyone else uses, just enough that ICS bars are hit-or-miss if used in other brands of mechbox. If you changed gears, or changed that yaw bar out for a different brand, this could also be the issue.

I had this problem with my ICS, took me some studying and playing before I made my adjustments, now semi works perfectly... Just make sure the yaw bar is moving fully, not stopping early. You might also need to shave a bit off the selector plate, I found mine was hitting the yaw bar early and causing the gear nub to miss the yaw bar or be inconsistent in doing so.

It also needs to be said that you can't use a non-ICS selector plate in an ICS gun, at least not without some modification. It's easier to just use ICS parts in ICS guns.
