Upgrading M4 S-System, guidance appreciated.
Hey Folks,
I'm new to airsoft, just purchased an M4 S-System, everything is stock. I received a PDI 130 spring with the gun (not installed) and I'm looking at doing a bit of an upgrade. I've done quite a bit of reading on this forum and here's my plan so far, just want to run it by some more experienced upgraders before I buy the parts... I don't want to drop a whole lot of cash off the hop and I don't need crazy ROF. I'm looking at upgrading the range first and then down the road, work on the accuracy. So to increase the range (and a little more durability without breaking the bank) I'm looking at installing the PDI 130, Deep fire 6mm Hardened Oiless Metal Bushings (right size?), Systema Bearing Spring Guide - V2, and a Guarder Polycarbonate Tappet for TM Ver.2 (while it's apart). Then down the road, to increase accuracy, I'm looking at a tightbore barrel (6.03) and probably a Guarder or Hurricane cylinder upgrade kit (complete with nozzle, cylinder head, cylinder, piston head, and piston). I'm trying to stay away from spending too much $$, from what I've read, these upgrades (hopefully) should be doable without having to upgrade gears or batteries or anything else. So... any comments or suggestions? Am I on the right track? Thanks in advance, -Stu |

Buy a torque-up motor from systema, systema M120 mechy, and prometheous 6.03 inner barrel.
Oh! and make sure you get a good hop-up sleeve, and unit! |

I would consider the tightbore barrel sooner, it will increase range ( as it increases fps) AND increases accuracy. It's dead easy to install which also is a plus.
Good set of upgrades you have there, also consider ( if you don't already) using .25 g bb's. You lose overall range but gain in the EFFECTIVE range.

I have put in my a&k S-system a 120 spring metal spring guide bearings and a tight bore and can say it makes 1 HELL of a differnce in the gun ...
using .25 EF killerbees I get 350-355 fps and can cut throught the brush in wood games and reach people very nice setup |

Gracias
Thanks Gentlemen for your input. One question... will I really require the torqued up motor with the mods I have planned?
Again, any input appreciated! -Stu |

With a PDI 130% spring? It wouldn't be a bad idea. It may depend more on your battery solution. If you're still planning on using a mini battery, I'd say it's definitely a requirement, PLUS torque up gears. The PDI 130% is probably one of the worst spring choices you could go for.

i would suggest a ms100sp spring, gives 340 on .20, but with tightbore and other upgrades you put it will give you extra fps and still be legit on most airsoft field. The thing is you dont want to much fps with .25 or any other wieght or els you start loosing accuracy at long distance. It might get there faster but the bb is traveling to fast for its weight, so it starts acting wierd at long range. From what a remember from an old article on accuracy most fps with no accuracy lost with .25 is around 360fps but then when you test it with .20 you get all most 400fps and most field dont allow that much fps or simply your stuck with sniper rules.

Of all the PDI 130% springs that i've handled, they shot as hard as a PDI 140% spring, but was made from a MUCH stiffer material. In fact, the wire used was so stiff, that it required as much current draw to crank it as a Systema M120S would demand. Possibly even more. It's a REALLY REALLY stiff spring and will cause your battery and motor to suffer. I suggest the Prometheus MS100SP spring as well. With a fully tuned gun, you can get it up to 350fps, but expect between 330 and 350fps with it. You definitely won't need a stronger battery to pull that kind of spring. I have an S-System upgraded with a Prometheus MS100SP spring and it hits pretty much 350fps on the dot. Check it out here: http://www.airsoftcanada.com/showthread.php?t=39359=

ILLusion nice AEG, i wonder if you didnt have a silenced head and had tight bore barrel instead "prometheus 6.03" how much more fps would i gaing, cause my m4 setup is similar, for the exception that i have a mix of systema and prometheus parts.

With Brians set up with 6.03mm tightbore that would be another 5-10fps. It could be more fps if he is using a non silenced head set like a regular cylinder head and piston head. Silent head set decreases your fps by 5-10 fps(source airsoftmechanics.com). I had a similar set up before on one of my M4 and it was shooting 360fps with MS100 and also a mix of Systema and Prom internals. Cheers!

Sweet setup! This is awesome feedback! I'm glad I asked!
So... Here's the updated plan... Prometheus MS100SP, steel bushings, bearing spring guide, reinforced tappet plate, and a Prometheus tightbore. Install PDI 130 in pogo stick. Then down the road when it's time to lube up the gears, upgrade the piston/cylinder components. Thanks guys! If anyone else want to weigh in on this, feel free. -Stu For sale, one PDI 130 spring, NIB! |

Prometheus 6.03mm inner barrels ARE tightbores. Standard inner barrel bore is 6.08mm.

Hi everyone, im akagi from the philippines. I just want to share information regarding the M4 S SYSTEM as well..
I have a JG M4 S SYSTEM, a marui clone but with higher stock fps shoots about 410-420 fps out of the box using .2, stock spring and battery. I've been using it for quite a while and the spring kinda settled to 405 fps on average.. Wulfey...what's the brand of the M4 S SYSTEM that you got? Do you guys have an fps limit for playing there so that maybe i can give my thoughts on what to upgrade...(the cheapest way) |
