Refinishing An TM Thompson M1A1

Hey all,

Got a question with regards to the finish of the Thompson. Got quite a few surface scratches a was wondering how to repair and maintain the look of the current finish.

Would bluing work or work I be better off to just recoat with spary paint??

If I were you I'd fill the deep scratches with something like a modeling putty....

After that sand it smooth and paint.

But; That's only for the deep scratches.

hmm, since yours in the plastic furniture, right?, finding a nice wood paint, color too, dark woodish tone. Sand your grips up smooth, and give it a couple of coats. Now unless someone else has a different and better solution, I dont see why this wouldnt work.

Are we talking the plastic stock scratches or metal finish? If the metal finish you are talking about, you could try gun bluing to cover up the scratches since the majority of the Thompson is decent metal.

Should have mentioned that it was mainly the metal receiver I was looking at refinishing.

Gun-blueing paste or cream, lightly applied, is the fastest solution. Be careful, it IS corrosive.
