Need Help- XM8 weaver
Im about to get an XM8. Its a BE frame, but all the internals are from other TM models. I was wondering if anyone has ever dealt with it before, because i want to get rid of the dummy RDS, and apply a weaver rail for far more functional models. Anyways, is the housing integrated into the top, or is it just removble?

the housing is integrated into the dummy scope
you will need to shave off the dummy scope to put a scope in its place or you can just stick in a 30mm pistol scope without integrated mounts I made it so that it is interchangable if you strip the gun down and replace the optics I dont forsee any fitting problems since the RDS controls are quite large I actually have a 30mm scope kicking around..ill mess around with it when I have time and get back to you |

If you're going to take off the integrated optics and add weaver rails, why not just start off with a G36? You essentially get the same thing. That is, of course, unless you simply like how the XM8 looks, but want the G36 custimization aspect, in which case it shouldn't be too hard to replace the carry handle with a weaver rail. Probably just going to be a bit of finnicky work with a dremel and some epoxy.

all righty
you CAN add a weaver rail since the scope unit is completely seperate but you will need to add quite a sizable spacer I dont have my nice digi cam so you get craptacular quality webcam pics, but they get the point across http://www.pbase.com/image/59220652 http://www.pbase.com/image/59220654 and skippy : shh..he wants to buy my gun :-D oop..i dont have a 30mm scope only a 20mm one but from initial fitting, looks like you will have to mod the scope housing the layout of a scope is a bit different from an RDS different sized knobbies |

you dont need a spacer, a g36 side rail or any short rail, the holes are already there, then get an aimpoint with a cantaliver quick detatch, or an acog. yes i know it sthe worst pic ever... i would take actual pics if i had an aimpoint and acog.

Good call, but yeah since the integrated scope is all enhanced all have no use of it. I dont want to damage such nice craftmanship

I was under the impression that the body was molded around the optics frame.
Guess I better be shutting the hell up. And yeah, that's going to be a wicked easy modification if the optics just screw off. A G36 side rail looks to be about just the right size for that gap. Plus, if you do it right, you can still swap the integrated optics back in for that authentic XM8 look! Everybody wins! |

to the best of my knowledge, the BE XM8 is based off the GWS one, but has its own set of improvements/not so good stuff
I had to strengthen certain areas with metal putty; the body tabs on the BE xm8 are weaker than the TM armalite tabs.. but the battery compartment is the quick-change kind, GWS I believe you have to take the whole foregrip off and the scope housing is of a different design; GWS I also believe cannot be separated like this then again...I dont own a GWS system, only seen pictures and stuff, so I cannot be certain and technically the optics dont "screw off" you have to take down the top receiver, which takes 1 or 2 minutes to do imho, integrating optics into the dummy scope looks best since it doesnt interrupt the XM8's smooth lines |

Either way, all i needed was a RDS, and if one is already integrated, all the better. However since were on the subject, if anyone has dealt with the BE xm8 before, how hard will it be to attach a lower weaver on the foregrip for attaching tactical grips, m203's and lights. I know i cant cover the battery door, but i dont know where exactly its located on the handguard.

http://www.airsoftcanada.com/gallery...hp?i=3166&c=27 (all three rails bottom and sides) i just drilled an undersized hole then used super glue as loc tight when i threaded the screws in. mine is the gws, and i have to remove the entire forgrip to access the battery, i believe your battery door is half way (maybe a little closer to th trigger) just a normal g36 side rail shouyld work for you, i used a g36 long bottom rail so i couls put a post grip on. but you could do that too, to change the battery via the battery door would probably be just as easy as pushing the front body pin out and sliding the fore grip forward to expose the battery. it takes like 30 seconds to change my battery that way. the battery door is mostly a way to bypass the copyright on the xm8 body, but it is handy. |

yeah, you need to attach 2 rails if you want to keep the functionality of the battery hatch
the GWS XM8 foregrip I believe is kept on by just one locking pin while the BE xm8 has 2; the one that the GWS has and one other pin where the carry handle joins with the foregrip on the very top I believe I still have my hi-capa rail mount lying around somewhere... I'll include that if I find it |
