Help: New Gun won't load/fire BBs

After looking over/trouble shooting (no pun intended) this thing... I noticed that the pneumatic piston is in the way of where the bbs are fed. Not allowing the bbs to go into the breach.

See pic....

What can I do to fix it? Probably won't do this but.... Cut that air piston (Sorry don't know the name of it) shorter?

thanks in advance!

Stop don't cut it.

it could be.

Nozzle came off the tappet plate.

Mag fitment.

Mag not feeding.

Brand of your gun and the brand of the mags?

The more INFO you can add the more we can help you

Right there, you are admitting that you don't know a damn thing about how your rifle works. Best advice I can give you:

Find your nearest Gun Doc and let him/her fix it.

Because, with your level of knowledge, you'll likely end up screwing up the gearbox and have to get a Gun Doc anyway, but by then the damage would be done. And you'd be looking at more money than just having him/her work on it originally.

Thanks for the replies.

This is the gun...

I will admit I know nothing about airsoft; I only really bought this thing for a video/photo shoot.

Today I decided why not shoot a couple of rounds.

Gun is a brand new Ares MA-013 (M4 long barrel)

Mag is feeding fine... Its just that damn air piston thing is half way into the breech and won't allow BBs to fall into the chamber.

Circled in red is what's blocking the chamber the BBs load into.

Thanks again guys!

When the gun cycles, does the nozzle pulls back and forth? it must move at least a BB's length, a little more surely... As previously said, the nozzle could be off the tappet plate, thus not feeding properly.

Yes it does when I pull the trigger the nozzle fires forward then goes back into it's starting position. But it still blocks half the chamber.

How do I get the nozzle back onto the tappet plate? I'm pretty good with my hands and mechanical stuff (was pretty hardcore into RC Cars before)

thanks again!

(face palm).. here's a really easy way to test if the nozzle is indeed off of the tappet plate... grab the damn thing and pull it forward.. if it doesn't move it's still on the tappet plate. if you push it in, it should push back out on it's own.

with the gun fully assembled, look into the BB feed tube and fire the gun on semi. check to see if the nozzle is moving back far enough to clear the way for a BB to pass.
if the nozzle moves but not enough, your tappet plate is broken where it engages the sector gear.

if the tappet plate is broken, send the gun to a gun doc. if you are still having trouble figuring out whats wrong, send the gun to a gun doc.

i would offer to have a look at it my self since you're in Toronto, then again working on a gun who's owner has no clue as to how to repair/maintain it, usually means there are more underlaying issues I wouldn't want to deal with. Also being an Ares gun, i wouldn't want to bother with the headaches associated with working on it (PTS ACR anyone?)

How do you know the mag is feeding fine if you cannot test it with your rifle?
Have you tested it before or?

What is the mag brand?

Check... Everything is in order here

with the gun fully assembled, look into the BB feed tube and fire the gun on semi. check to see if the nozzle is moving back far enough to clear the way for a BB to pass.

This is the problem. Nozzle doesn't move far back enough for a bb to pass/be loaded into the chamber

if the tappet plate is broken, send the gun to a gun doc. if you are still having trouble figuring out whats wrong, send the gun to a gun doc.

Gun is brand new just bought it (will bring back to the store I purchased it from)

That's pretty harsh... I thought this was a community that would welcome/help newcomers. This is my first airsoft Rifle... Bought it new and it didn't work... Just wanted to see if it was an easy fix that I could attempt myself instead of making a trip all the way back to the store. Regardless I appreciate your input and help. So thanks.

Wow!

Anyways, that piece is the nozzle, it does two things, first it moves back to allow a BB from the mag to pop up then shoves it into the chamber (thus preventing any more BBs from entering before the chambered round is fired). Second, the nozzle focuses and directs the air pressure from the piston moving forward to push the BB out of the chambr and down the barrel.

If when you cycle the mechbx with the gun in half like your pic shows, the nozzle moves back and forth fast, then it works fine. If it doesn't, tappet plate is blown as stated above.

And, I hate to say it, but you need to load more than 2-3 BBs into the mag in order for the gun to be able to fire one, most mags wont allow you to pop a single BB in the mag and fire it. I assume you DIDN'T do this? Meaning load the mag full and try it. You don't know much about airsoft, after reading this post you now know more, we kinda need more details or else we can't help you much.

Yes, It's a high cap mag filled it full wound it up tight.

Like I said before, I purchased it for filming. Just wanted to see if it worked.

I'll just take it back to the store tomorrow after filming and see what they say.

Ok after some research using the proper airsoft terms (hehe) and YouTube. I did a tear down/reassembly and got it all working!!! Pat on the back for me.

Now here's a new question.... In semi mode and high cap mag fully wound up... Out of say 20 shots maybe 1 or 2 shots would be blank (just air no BB exiting the barrel). Is this normal and within specs?

thanks

Get some silicon oil and put a couple drops in the mag's feed tube, and in the hop up feed tube (your first picture up there) and cycle it a few bursts, then run BBs through it. May help.
