GBBR Question
I am interested in getting into the GBBR scene and I am looking into the SRC AK74u. The only thing is that I want to use it for both indoor and outdoor. Off of green gas it shoots about 400fps so could I run it on duster to get something around 330fps? I hope this isn't a stupid question, I am just not very familiar with GBBs and I have no experience with GBBRs.
Thanks! EDIT: I did some googling and I think I answered my question: HFC 134a wont provide enough power to cycle the weapon and it is bad for the seals. Is this true?

I dont know if its available for the SRC AK74, but RA-Tech makes an NPAS (negative pressure adjuster system) for some GBBRs that basically lets you adjust the fps of the gun by adjusting the propellant pressure. If they make it for the AK74, that'd be a good solution

Wait a bit on the SRC, we don't know what it's really worth right now.
Either take a WE Open Bolt (except for PDW and SCAR) or wait for the Open Bolt versions of the M4 line. Other solution is the KJW M4 but after fixing some they are not really more reliable in the mid/long run than other brands and the NPAS is a bitch (compared to WA and WE ones) to adjust. |

The SRC is one of the worst GBBR's out there, next to the GHK AK.
It's riddled with issues. Don't get it. |

Every GBBR gun will fail eventually, some are design flaw, others are material problem
Take WA system for example, its both design flaw (evidence shown in RA-Tech and Inokatsu failure) as well as material (AGM, Well, King Arms, VFC, G&P WOC-x...) KJW designed better so parts are less likely to break, the material is the problem. Though the pressure on those are no where high stress as WA WE material seem to be the main issue, their continual use of pot metal has cause a lot of parts to fail prematurely, and those made of steel are low quality so they break easily If you add classic to the list (External Air GBBR) it purely depends on who made it, If it's Escort, make sure you upgrade the brass part to Stainless steel as very long run (20k+ or overclocking the gun) you will have problem. I know daytonagun uses sacrifical parts, you just need to replace those parts every 10k or so. (Those parts are screws which are notoriously cheap but quite durable, typically purchasable in the $5-10/100 pieces) I can't commet on SRC, but the new GHK's gun seems to be pretty positive review from the Taiwanese player (GHK PDW & AKM, the 5.45 AK series are piece of junk) |

I would seriously consider waiting for the WE AK my WE M4 (which has some wicked recoil stock) had taken quite a beating and even after failure of the hammer (was deformed by the bolt) it was still shooting just fine (I actually didn't even notice until I tore my gun down for cleaning after te game). I have since replace all the internals with steel parts.. Did a few minor modifications (and I mean minor) and she is running great. Keep the gun clean and lubes properly and a WE will sing for you everytime. Just my $0.02 .

Read reviews on this site or anywhere. Mags that break easily, hopup that resets, other issues I can't recall.

Hey man, I'd recommend staying away from the SRC, just because there isn't really much in the way of aftermarket support for it. i.e. RA-Tech and other companies haven't made many replacement/upgrade parts for them...if any.
If you're looking for an AK GBBR, then the rest of the guys on here have got it right. Wait for the WE TECH AK!!!!!! The GHK AK74s out there aren't worth their weight in dung, and unless you want to drop money into upgrading your hop up, nozzle and maybe even the bolt into RA-Tech parts, then they're not worth it for gaming. Plus, other parts on the gun will break in time and you'll have to source AK drop in kits for those extra parts since no body makes them. (the kits are almost impossible to find now, only 3 left on Airsoftdepot and very few elsewhere online) The Armalites are your best bet and WE Tech takes the cake...for now. The WE Tech M4s have quite a few upgrade parts and so many people have them that it shouldn't be hard to find what you're looking for. Plus, you can get the NPAS system that will allow you to dial up your FPS or down as you see fit. You can even drop it under 300 FPS if you really want to. SUPER BONUS, you can buy the CO2 ready version, so you don't have to always use propane. CO2 is great for those colder days, unless you spray and pray. The WA platform is great too in my opinion, but a bit more expensive. You do however, have the option of buying cheaper Chinese parts, so it might not break the bank like a WE Tech can when you upgrade it. If you've got the dough though, WA GBBRs are great cause makers like Bomber, Viper, Inokatsu and Prime make much nicer receivers than WE Tech IMOP. KJWs are great, and quite reliable, but suffer from a similar problem as the SRC AK, i.e. very little replacement/upgrade options. Plus, they're the least similar to a real AR, so it's not as cool when you tear it down. So, in conclusion, until WE Tech comes out with their entry into the AK market, I'd agree with most on here and stick to Armalite models for now, or if you want a smaller platform, the WE PDW is a decent pick too. |

I can't comment on the SRC AK74U...but if this is branching off onto other platforms I'll put in the following points.
- WA/G&P/Ino/KA/etc...are great builders guns...but expensive to keep running. Reliable, solid mags tend to be REALLY expensive...making the overall cost very high. Good parts to put one together, or to replace worn/broken parts...are also pretty expensive. This platform has THE MOST aftermarket parts available. You could probably choose from 5 different manufacturers and 3-4 different styles for any give part of the rifle. - KJW rifles seem to have a solid following of guys who say they are reliable. Personally, I'm not a fan of the system...and (IMO) I hate that there are only the one type of ribbed mag available. - WE rifles tend to be easily (and relatively cheaply) fixable for any issues that come up...perhaps the one exception is the SCAR, which I would say has fundamental design issues (basically beats itself to death). The PDW seems to be a very solid alternative to an M4. IMO, the G39C action a bit "soft"...and the M14 is a nice shooter, but is too damn long for me. The new batch of WE CQBR M4's are really, really nicely built right out of the box. This past winter the guys were running the CO2 mags in some pretty bloody cold weather. There is a definite lack of "industry buy in" to the WE guns. Manufacturers have not been quick, it at all, to offer up WE platform specific parts/accessories. RATech and TSC are probably the two most notable exceptions. That said...a lot of real steel parts fit...so if you say wanted a different pistol grip you simply have to drill a hole (for the hidden plunger that pins the selector in place) in the grip and bolt it on, I've seen guys do that in 5min with a dremel tool. I can't comment on classic air systems...other than they are impressive to see. The mechanism vary quite a bit. Some being more tempermental than others. I wouldn't do it for an AK, MP5 or M4....but I'd do it for a SAW/LMG/MG. Last edited by m102404; April 27th, 2011 at 14:33.. |

I contacted SRC and I received an email which said they have fixed the mag feed lip issue. I wonder what other issues they will have. It seems as if most brands are having material issues. I have read a few reviews and most people seem to like the gun. I think the hop-up reset issue can be fixed just by tightening the hop up adjustment and using loctight.

SRC AK, - unsatisfying recoil, has been reported., incomplete cycling ( short recoil)
If you are going to go GBBR.. the least you want it to do is bang 'round a bit and make some noise, otherwise you may as well go with a AEG

YouTube - Airsoft Evike.com- SRC AKS-74U GBB review
Here is a decent youtube review. I can see all of the problems you are talking about. The magazine is the most mind boggling issue. What the F*** is SRC thinking?
