Modify it to have foam and nerf whistles?

The issue with these things is that to make it light enough to be safe.. it won't fly..

sure once all the propellant ( water ) is expelled I expect it is quite light...

but what about the bonehead who walks in front of the tube just as you drop the bomb and takes half a kilo of plastic and water in the face at launch velocity?

I have a feeling these two threads won't remain mutually exclusive.

I too agree that for the interests of safety, *anything* hard being launched as a projectile and coming down vertically at anything close to terminal velocity is pretty much a non-starter on airsoft fields. I definitely wouldn't play on a field, with one of those in play, in any case.

However, *this* looks fun, if somewhat massive overkill in terms of a project.. i could see it being adapted as a much more economical mortar tube setup - and it'd be great if those nerf projectiles could be modified with an internal striker-plate of some sort to accomodate cap-gun type paper percussion charges (are those even available anymore? - i might be dating myself as a child of the 60-70's here) for the 'explosive' realism.

Brian the solution to your problem. The people who are operating it have to understand that before firing they have to take a look around.

A general rule of thumb with airsoft, and life in general, is that if idiots can buy it, idiots will use it.

yeah.. try that one out on a Judge

I guess people that don't have much to loose don't worry about things like liability claims.. Everything I do has to be tempered with a risk assessment.

I wouldn't judge it too hard before actually getting your hands on it. Nobody yet knows the weight, it's impact force, etc. If it's really light you could maybe use it on field.

It's an interesting item that could serve a purpose. Perhaps not against other players but as a milsim prop this thing is pretty neat. Capture a mortar position and have the players fire off mortars vs an imaginary force or against an unoccupied building?. Wouldn't that be super fun?

yup.. and a reasonable use ..

if you are creative I CAN see a use for such items.. but they would have to be closely controlled

the item is real light made of plastic for main body. sadly a mortar crew is not needed but the rest of the mill section involved could keep lookie loos at a safe distance. the landing looked possably iffy. i would be more concerned with shell recovery at large games like pine. i lost a tornado to a room full of dead.
we will see how this goes it looks interesting.

Example of the policy that should be in place is one episode of suns of guns: made a re-enactment rocket launcher for the WW2 folks, and before he would sell it to them to use in the re-enactments, he tested it out on himself. (model rocket engine and light plastic body)

I believe that a similar system should be in place for anything that comes on field that is out of the norm.
