Even if you just stick a new mag in, by the time you move your finger to the trigger BBs already had longer exposure then when flying at 400FPS...
It's not about the long exposure time (a tracer bb charged for 10 hrs will glow at the same brightness and duration as one charged for 1 seconds). It's about the brightness of the illumination source. Supressor based units use a flashbulb to flash the bb. Mag and hopup tracer units use a LED which is not as bright.

I have a madbull gemtech tracer unit and the madbull ultimate hopup LED tracer. The gemtech tracer produces much brighter tracer rounds. Batteries drain quick though since the flash unit uses a lot of juice.

The issue with tracer mags is that the first 2 BB's do not charge in the feed tube. It's always on when the mag is loaded so your battery life from mag to mag will vary. Some will die sooner than others requiring more battery maintenance. Obviously, any working mag will work with a suppressor. There are other quirks as to why I will never field a full load.

I also have 5 g&p tracer mags. They are Garbage. The springs are so weak they barely feed. This is for all 5 mags.

I have a pair of the g&p tracer mags and they not so good. If completely dark they glow a bit. But low light level indoors they useless. They feed ok for me though. I someday will mod them with a better uv led.

have you considered a HUTU powered by UV LEDs? the madbull HUTU uses white LEDs and they are positioned below the nozzle, so there is a delay on when glowing bbs get fired, and they tend to not be very bright. i find that a single high output UV LED works faster and brighter than even silencer styled (strobe based) tracer units. best of all, you don't have to increase the length of your gun with one.
