USMC
I began building myself a USMC OIF loadout. Already got the Marpat shirt/pants, PASGT helmet, marpat cover, Panama speedlace boots, ESS goggle... but when it comes to load bearing equipement I'm a bit confused...I'm short on cash, so I can't afford a repro IBA and MOLLE pouches and I was wondering if a Enhanced LBV would be a good match. I have only saw one picture showing a Marines with such vest.
Thanks for your help guys! |

For OIF a standard LBV would pretty much be a no-go, IBA was/is the way they go these days. Maybe you could get away with the LBV if you were going for a force or battalion recon loadout for some sort of LRRP mission, but for a standard marine it would look out of place.

Yeah as I said, the best would be a IBA, but I'm kinda short on cash these days... So I was looking for some other way to complete the impression
I actually found one pic of a Marine with LBV, but since I had only one, I asked you guy's advice. I could always go for a force recon look, but the standart PASGT helmet would be out of place, plus haven't seen any Force Recon in Marpat, only in 3-color Raid style BDUs. *Edit* correct me if I'm wrong it damn looks like a LBV... |

Yes, Marines do wear LBVs... over their interceptor vests, all School of Infantry students are trained with that load-out... but in the field as a grunt you don't do anything without a "flak and kevlar" your not allowed to operate or ride any military vehicle even stateside without wearing these. The vest is a pretty essential part to the kit. So, by all means you can pick up an LBV for now (make sure its the correct issue... i don't remember ever looking at the specific designation... kinda negligent i suppose) and just make sure you pick up the repro Interceptor vest. OR just save up for the vest and look at cheap molle pouches at www.cheaperthandirt.com. The LBV alone wont be that much cheaper i imagine and with the vest will probably cost you a lot more in the end. As far as the MOLLE pouches are concerned, standards are pretty loose and if you showed up with some OD on there you may get a raised eyebrow but thats about it... (and the older stocks of interceptor vests are old woodland but most newer ones issued are coyote brown, even for "greens" uniforms so its really kinda mix and match...) I hope this helps.

I'm currently in Iraq and this is our new issued gear.
Coyote Brown Intercepter Vest w/ Neck, Throat, and Groin protectors 2 E-SAPI Plates 2 Dual Magazine Pouches (8 mags total fit in them) 2 Gernade Pouches IFAK (Individual First Aid Kit) Kevlar Helmet with Padded inserts ESS Desert Goggles ESS Ice Glasses Desert Digital Camis Desert Leather Boots M16A2, M16A4 w/ RCO (ACOG), M4 CQBR w/ RCO (ACOG), M9 No one uses LBVs out here anymore, they use MOLLE gear attached to their interceptor. We get issued a Super FLC vest, but no one uses them. Serpas are the common drop leg, but everyone pretty much uses whatever they had back in the rear, pretty even with shoulder holsters vs drop leg. Slings are mostly three point, but you see some jerry-rigged two points as well that function as 3 points. |

At the time I did that thread, I was looking for OIF1 loadout, and this picture is from that time as well.
I now own a full impression made of all issued gear
