GBB vs AEG

I know there's a thread GBBR vs AEG, but this isn't the same deal.

A while back I remember reading some posts on how a properly upgraded GBB pistol could outshoot an AEG.

Now the main thing I'm wondering with this post is if a pistol could even be a good starting weapon. I know you wont get the same range as if you bought an M4 or M14 or what have you, but would a pistol be possibly a fun first gun?

lets look at the facts (based for use with outdoor)

GBB pistol:
range=shit-decent
it makes lots-o noise
most only fire in semi (ones that fire full auto usually implode after a short while)
small mags
relies on Gas that needs to be filled often

AEG:
range-decent-very good
quiet(er)
usually full auto capable.
all sorts of mags
relies on a battery that needs to be changed at most 1once a game (more for multiple day ops)

a well upgraded pistol can outshoot some stock AEGs but its very hard to use them as an effective primary outdoors.

its a whole different story in CQC though

i dont know, I always do better when I game my pistols than when I game my AEGs, faster trigger response, and semi only doesnt really matter because I only use semi most of the time anyways, but my GBBs are highly upgraded, and yes some of them do outshoot AEGs

Depends which AEG or GBB you choose to start with, and what upgrades you put into it.

AEG's are easier to get into the game play of airsoft with; pistols as primaries is a very different game play style lol.

But thats what I'm looking for. I love being out-gunned so I need to be able to re-strategize and hopefully end up flanking and popping the entire team.

I do it with our clearsoft here, every once in a while. It ends up being slightly fun.

EDIT: I was mostly looking for a good debate on wether or not it IS gameable, and wont make me throw down the pistol in disgust yelling about how shitty airsoft is.

lol, well there you go then. Pistols with longer barrels (and thus more muzzle velocity) generally keep up better with AEG's on a field, from what I've seen. Examples are TM Hi-Capa's and TM MK23's. I've definitely seen a few Beretta's used as primaries, and those seem to get the job done in the right hands.

Remember to factor in the cost of buying a handful (or more) of mags. Running around with one mag in a pistol doesn't look like any fun.

Also, with a pistol, can you throw on a surpressor to hide a longer inner barrel? Or is that hindering to the pistol itself?

EDIT: Also, I've been looking in Canada for an M93R. How's the KWA perform?

the KWA is totally great, i love it, get AVed and I can tell you where to get one ;p
ive never found the need for a longer barrel in my pistols, they shoot great with the standard 5" (depending on model) barrels

Oh maybe that's just me and carrying enough loaded mags on me for two days worth of game play when I'm only out for half a day... lol.

Edit: As to nooblord's latest comment, I basically meant anything longer than a compact Glock will do you fine. Even then.. that might do. Just.... don't expect to be able to do too much with a Glock 27/26 if that's your primary. Or wait, maybe that's just the feel of the sub-compact Glocks... ah hell, I don't know. Pick something that you like and go with it. You'll be buying more guns anyway, lol. Eventually, those guns will be guns that suit your play style (at least, the ones you actually play with), so it'll all work out.

My TM mk23 will out range most stock AEG's. All it needs is a good tbb the nine ball hopup rubber and .28 bastards.

@ Thenooblord- I love my Raffica...more than one person lately has gotten a surprise when they figured I was semi auto only and decided to charge my position.

Have you found a Canadian Seller for Magazines, or a shoulder stock for it? I would prefer to buy in country, but if i have to, I'll go stateside.

i only actually have ever used the M93R in semi in games surprisingly, so i could do just as well with a regular M9 or PTP i guess, but I like the looks and the OPTION to go full auto if i really need it
theres not so much a retailer for them in canada as somebody that just happens to have a few mags, but I ordered from ehobby, it was cheaper

I'm not sure why but I've always loved the M93R's. Does the KWA have the full auto option? Cause IMO thats stupid...
