The Brits have Won!

http://www.arniesairsoft.co.uk/index...75270&archive=

This has been forwarded on to me for publication from the ABA. It looks like they are going to get the exemption that they have been looking for for airsoft in relation to the VCR Bill. Here's the news:

I refer to my letter of 16 August about airsoft skirmishing and the Violent Crime Bill.

I have now had an opportunity to consider the case which you and your colleagues put to me and you will be pleased to know that I have decided to provide a defence for airsoft skirmishing in relation to the ban on the sale etc or realistic firearms. As you are no doubt aware, there is already a power to make regulations in clause 34 of the Bill and we will include the defence to make regulation once the Bill completes its passage through Parliament. My officials will be in touch with you shortly to arrange a meeting to discuss in detail how the defence will work.

I trust you will be pleased with this outcome and will continue to ensure that airsoft skirmishing activities are in no way linked with the problem of misuse of realistic imitation firearms. Tony McNulty, (Minister of State)

Good job on the Brits' part. Now only if we can pull off the same thing in Canada, but then there hasn't been any bill propsed to ban airsoft yet.

This news should bring some happy grins among us as well especially with the recent dark cloud surrounding airsoft.

If it can happen as easily as that in Britain, then why not here.

Because there isn't a proposed bill on the matter yet in Canada. The British airsofters were going against a bill; not asking the gov't to define a new category for airsoft.

From my understanding, airsoft belongs to a shady area which doesn't really have any classifications since it's somewhat a replica, but not exactly a replica.

Not a bill to ban airsoft... but I can tell you this, in the law, there is a clear part about marui guns being replica :

================================================== ===========
Air Guns and Air Soft Guns
Air guns with a velocity of less than 500 feet per second are not considered firearms for licensing and registration purposes. For most other purposes, however, these air guns are considered to be firearms rather than replicas if their projectiles can cause serious injuries. Air guns that look like real firearms but that cannot cause serious injury fit the definition of a replica. In some cases, ballistic studies may be necessary to determine if a particular air gun can cause serious injury.

Some devices commonly known as "air soft" guns may qualify as replica firearms. For example, following a thorough assessment and a review of ballistic studies, the Chief Scientist for Firearms at the RCMP's Central Forensic Laboratory has determined that a line of electric guns, spring guns and gas-powered guns produced by the Tokyo Marui company are replica firearms because:

They closely resemble real firearms in size, colour, appearance and configuration, and
The projectiles that they fire are not likely to cause serious bodily injury.
Again, various makes and models may have to be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
================================================== ===========

As per another document, it says that you are allowed to keep a replica if you had it before december 1st 1998... I don't know for everybody, but that is not the case for all my guns...

Please no need to flame, I just added what I found. All documents were taken on the RCMP fireamrs center website : http://cfc-cafc.gc.ca/

With all things considered, I think it would be good if we could pull the same thing off in canada.

Thanks,

I don't think "easy" was the word for it...it required a TON of lobbying...also tons and tons of MONEY.

Plus huge amounts of time....it took at least 2 years for this to come to fruition..so if we want this we best start preparing now... I thank the people already on the watch for this... you people hare very on top of this and i applaud you...

I watched this battle in the UK press for a couple of years... It did take some serious lobbying from gamers and gun collector groups plus hunters.

This is very good news because it just made it easy for us, if they try to ban airsoft in Canada we can use the brits as our defence on the issue," if they can have, so why the hell not us too? We got the Queens head on our money as well, so we have to keep up with the UK!"

Finally the Home Office dose some thing right I can just see there “to do list” now

1) Saving Air Soft
2) Stopping illegal immigrants
3) Clamping down on crime

I like there priorities

***Edit I don’t mean that in a bad way to air soft just that the Home Office usually fails this is a nice change***
