Attention all Geardos: Need help with Chest Rig

Alright, folks. Here's my issue.

Eagle Industries UMP Chest Rig

Buyer in Canada claims this was a purchase from a retired US NSW guy and it's one of a kind. He also says it works for an MP7 platform as well. I've dealt with this guy in the past and he's a good guy, so I don't think he's trying to put one over on me.

Have a good hard look at those internal mag pouches. My argument is that a 40 round MP7 magazine is going to disappear in them. There's a 3 inch difference in height between an MP7 and a UMP45 magazine.

All I could find on the internet was this was a limited run in the 90s and is no longer in production.

Has anyone seen this rig before? Can anyone confirm it's MP7-friendly?

Thanks.

Not familiar w/ EI gear, but couldn't you get the guy to stick a ruler down the pouch and measure how deep it is?

Reference that w/ the length of a MP7 mag and go from there.

Looking down the pouch really doesn't tell me much... if anything, looking at the PALS webbing I'm guessing the pouches are about 8" deep, give or take a bit. Sounds a bit tall for a MP7 mag, but I haven't handled one in a while so I could be mistaken.

You should just buy a UMP and mags for this rig IMO.

is each individual slot sectioned off? like if I put something in there that's too short, it won't fall over and get lost inside?

Drop a steadler eraser in each one to shim the mag higher, or get fancier and get someone to make you a kydex drop in shim that will bring the height up.

I thought of doing that, but the width of the individual pockets will cause the mags to bounce around. I'm going to hunt down something else.

10speed rig is your only real choice I think. At least with that eagle rig you COULD have a custom insert done or do it yourself, I did it with g36 mags on my rig.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLhzXemAlo4

The pouches are meant for 2 m4 mags or 1 standard g36 mag. I could also do 2 g36 pmags. So I made a kydex sleeve to lock the mag into place, and the pouch has velcro on the back for removeable flaps. So I put corresponding velcro on the back of the kydex sleeve, a velcro tab on the front of the sleeve and sewed loop side onto the thumb tab on the front of the pouch so the sleeve is locked into place.

For kydex sleeves on that rig you posted, you'd have to bend some spacer section a the bottom and possibly flare it out front and back and the resistance will lock the sleeve into place inside the pouch, but you could make mp7 mags fit snugly.

Could get a slick rig, attach tacos of your choice and run with that, like TC said.

Alternatively, you could slap on a Mayflower pouch set, which tbh, is pretty cheap at ~$50.

I've also seen a couple of MP7 rigs from a few smaller custom gear shops which are pretty well thought out (can't recall the shop's name though... makes stuff for AK's as well) just need to dig around and find them.

Those ten speed rigs are super nice but also looking a bit sold out.

Ferro tactical makes a nice version. I think he'll do kydex inserts with it.

Buy an M4.........and M4 mags............maybe a different chest rig........also mag pouches.

Well, it either fits the MP7 mags or it doesn't. Does it fit them nicely side to side yet is slightly too deep, or are the pouches just too big altogether? You could put spacers in the bottom, I'd use bunched up, light-weight fabric. If it's an UMP rig, then return it to the guy, as it's not what he said it is. Plus one for HSGI taco pouches for an MP7.
