Yeah, it is for transporting. Very rarely would it be used on the field as a 'holster'

Erik, through all the investigations I have done on the MP40, when it was being carried in the field in non combat zones, the MP40 was slung around so that is was actually on the back on the wearer. It was slung over the shoulders with the sling diagonally across the chest and MP40 on the back.
