TM AK or TM M4A1?

Heyo im new to airsoft and new to the forums, and before you go shouting "Get verified" I have, with dragonhawk, and I' just waiting to get that shiny label (hint hint ).

Ive been ghosting the forum for a bit, and have been using the search fucntion like an average person with an IQ above 10.

Quick question, which do you think would be better for someone new to the sport, the TM AK 47, or the TM M4A1, and why?

And if you put rails on an AK the Kremlin banishes a kitten to Siberia.

Which is better is pretty subjective. When you look at price, performance, and quality, these guns are basically the same. They have similar internals and both (stock) have approximately the same performance. It's really more of a matter of which you like best.

In terms of reliability, many may tell you to grab the AK because of the more reliable V3 gearbox. However, when talking of a totally stock gun, that hardly matters, because you're highly unlikely to crack the V2 mechbox on a TM gun with the stock spring. And from the reading and research I've done, you're not likely to crack a TM V2 mechbox even with a heavier spring unless you're pushing the 400+ FPS range.

That being said, I bought a new TM M4A1 in early November. It didn't last 10 000 rounds of 'easy' use before blowing out its spur gear. I can't say that's typical of TM, but it certainly flies in the face of the "stock TM guns never break down" myth that people throw around all the time.

Cold weather breaks TM V2 mech boxes. Seen three go down in one winter game. That's stock V2's as well. The V3 in the AK doesn't have this problem. On the other hand it's harder to go prone with the AK. Once you spend a few bux on externals or internals it hardly matters cuz you can get a box that will not break on the M4. Standard Mag in the AK holds more than the M4 also the hicap AK mag hold 600 rounds vs 250 in the M4 hicap. TM AK stock tends to losen after a while but that's an easy fix with some tefflon tape and a screw driver. Aside from that get what you like best.

If this is your first AEG then it hardly matters between one or the other cuz chances are you will own the other one at some point in time. We've all been there.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

I've been told this several times too, and it's made me quite nervous about taking my Armalites outside in the cold.

But under regular temperature conditions, you're not likely to break a V2 any faster than a V3 with a stock TM gun.

So yeah, in the end, it's matter of personal preference which gun to get.

I have seen both break this winter. I have seen 2 version 3's go out. I started out with an Tokyo Mauri AK and now I am buying a STAR M4A1. It just really depends on your preference, but we cant decide for you.

If you want a gun you dont need to touch, and dont want rails and such; the AK.

If you want to tinker and change things, the M4.

I obviously prefer the classic look that has a rock solid mechbox; the AK.

Hey now, the AK can also be "changed/tinkered with". Lots of nice wood kits/metal parts, etc to be had. Plus a nice wood refinish or a paintjob/blue is also nice.

Go for the AK.

Go with the AK, a lot less issues and a more durable mechbox! Plus you can fit a large battery out of the box.

I own both so yeah

I got a TM M4A1 as my first AEG and even if it's been completely customized and improved, I still regret buying it.

There's an obvious weak point where the barrel is attached to the receiver. The grey plastic receiver sucks.

There are many better options out there for someone who wants an armalite.
