G&P Metal Body M16A1 or VN questions.
Ok, I am trying to build a custom USAF GAU-5/A, which is basically a XM177E2 or basically a M16 shorty. I am trying to find a upper recever that has no forward bolt assest, and no shell deflector. And I need to find a lower that does not have a mag fence.
I was just wondering if the G&P M16A1 or VN Recever kit had these features. I have researched, but only saw the left side of the recever. I could not tell about the other. I know one of the kits had a foward assest, but could not tell about the other. BTW the mag fence is not a big deal if they dont make it but still... I dont care if I have to purchase 2 different kits, I just wanted to build it as a perfect replica. If not, I am going to make what they call a "Frankencarbine" which is USAF's mix and match of many M16's, XM177's and M4's parts. I am building this rifle out of a CA M15A4, so basically I have the new barrel and front-end. The only thing I dont like is the Detachable iron sight.

You'll want to go with the G&P VN Metal Body... It'll do exactly what you want...

There's also a lot of misinformation floating around on forums like AR15.com. If you see someone saying something that sounds right but runs contrary to the material in this book, it means they're confusing it with something else they've heard.
