State of the website / stats for fun

I've been doing some server administration lately, and I thought I'd share some interesting stats on ASC for all of you, for whoever's curious - sometimes it's hard to get a handle on how big or small the site really is, although it's clear it's growing.

Based on website stats for May and going into June, here's what one month on ASC looks like.

Site stats:
Unique visitors: ~42000
Separate visits: 272568
Mouse clicks: 4637775 (4.6 million)
Bandwidth eaten: 265 GB
Percentage of bandwidth from the gallery: 22.6%
Bandwidth thieved by motherf#*$ing searchbots: 5.9 GB
Average length of visit: 14.6 minutes

Hourly distribution:
ASC does not sleep (EST)

International visitors:
Not surprisingly, 85% of our traffic is from Canada, with the US being the next biggest source of visitors.

After that, though, our most active audiences are from (in order, sort of*):
Australia
Great Britain
Hong Kong
Finland
Germany
Philippines
Norway
Czech Republic
Sweden
Netherlands
Spain
Singapore
Denmark
Italy
Taiwan
France
Japan
Belgium
Indonesia
Mexico
Russian Federation

*Some of the european countries would be re-arranged (higher on that list), because alot of european traffic routes through .eu prefixes now, making them hard to track, but it's still a rough idea.

Our favourite browsers:
IE: 73.7% (2 years ago: 94%)
FireFox: 20.3%
Safari: 1.8%

Hope that was entertaining or educational, or something.

Deffinately worthy of being posted. I didn't know a quarter of the stuff posted on here. What's odd to me is that the UAE is up near the top, and that the average visit is only 9.5 minutes. Lotsa people spend hours on here. Could someone shed some light on why the average visit is only 9.5 minutes?

How does that compare to, say, 8 months ago, and how much has it changed??

In October of 2005, ASC looked more like this:
Visits: 149877 (82% increase)
Visitors: ~24000 (70% increase)
Bandwidth: 172 GB (55% increase)

Actually I just realized that number is wrong, and needs to be adjusted for bots... give me a few.

/edit ok, modified for bots and likely bots, it comes out to around 14.6. Average long visit (excluding the quick pop-ins) is on the order of 25 minutes.

It's not too surprising, I'm guilty of plenty of 2 minutes vists - check PMs, read a few threads, and leave.

Wow. ASC is deffinately getting more popular and moving up in the search engines.I just typed it into Google (yes, searh botted it, sorry) and got 579 000 results. I didn't think ASC was near as big as it is.

As far as I'm aware, ASC is now the 4th largest english language airsoft website in the world.
Arnies, ASCUK and Filipino Airsoft are larger, but I don't any of any other ones, and we are catching up very quickly to Arnies in terms of total forum content and users (arnies used to be 4x bigger, now it's more like 1.5 I beleive).

Is UAE a conduit for Middle Eastern traffic or something? I know it's a rich country with heavy internet penetration in many areas, but I'm still surprised it's taht high on our list. Maybe people in the middle east are using ISPs based in UAE?

/edit changed country list to June stats. UAE doesn't appear in any other month in the top 10 other than May, I have no idea why.

Sorry, I should have been more clear. I meant United Arab Emirates.
I guess ASC isn't the small close-knit site that it used to be. It's hard to believe that we're catching up to Arnies that quickly.

I think the only time ASC was small and close knit was when Richie (no one knows who I'm talking about) first registered the domain name 30 (or 6) years ago, or whenever it was.

ASC was an official community forum website starting on May 22nd, 2001, 5 years and one month ago.

It was the evolution of another site before that, though - I don't go that far back so I can't comment on it really. I started hacking/admining/maintaining ASC around 3.5 years ago, and if anyone's still counting, I think this is version 5?
