Stock fps outdated?

Hey all,
I thought I would post some general questions regarding the trend to upgrade our guns to shoot higher fps rates. Though most, if not all fields have set limits on fps rates at 400, 450 for snipers for example, is the use of stock aeg's who's average fps is at 270 going the way of the dinosaur?
I understand that it isnt only the gun but the player that is a factor in these games but can a player using a stock aeg compete against upgraded guns?
Anyway I thought I would throw this one out to you guys for your input.

thanks

Answer 1) yes
Answer 2) easily
Answer 3) depends on the type of game played

all three are relevant.

My AEG is stoll stock internaly and I still get plenty of kills.

I want upgrades when I shoot at someone and my BBs get deflected by branchs and leafs.

In our little group, most people have upgraded guns that shoot 400 fps now. The mass upgrade trend happenned this winter and now Im kinda outclassed, so I have to change my playstile a little.

Or wait untill their AEG bust under the stress of the heavy spring, wich happend quite a lot these days.

It's frustrating sometime, but I still recommend playing with stock or lightly upgraded guns.

I've done very well with a shotgun vs AEG's. BUT.....I've also had my ass handed to me when I've gone up against a mostly upgraded team and I'm with a stock gun.

You can go against upgraded guns but you have to have the right field to do it. If you don't have enough cover....your toast. It also helps when you've a decent team or crew to back you up.

My AEG should be running ( havn't chrono'd ) around 360-380. I like having more range. I am tired of being outranged by 100 feet....but I'm also aware I'm going to be stuffing more money into keeping the gun going aswell.

In short, you don't need to upgrade. But your feeling of your "need" to upgrade will be affected by how you play both by yourself and your team and more importantly by your field(s) that you play on. Playing stock has it's own rewards.

upgraded or not, it as depends on ur skills I belive.

if you wanna upgrade it, 325/350 is plenty.

But as players told me when I started, Start with a stock gun, play with it, get to know your weapon and if you feel like you need more power then get some.

At the LZ, many of the veterans are running stock guns. As long as the field isn't all open ground then personal skill and tactics will help a lot more than an upgraded gun. In fact any minute now, Poncho should drop by to say

Upgrade the player, not the gun.

My gun currently has a stock powered spring. The other upgrades are better gears and internal parts for durability instead of power.

I dont feel unarmed or owned. I know how my gun shoots, I can judge ranges, so it's really all up to me. And so what if you get shot? Just play the next scenario. No big deal.

It's not a speed competition, or a contest to see who can come closest to field safety limits.

Thanks everyone for your input on this. All very good information. I dont plan on upgrading the fps on my aeg anytime soon. Basically I was just wondering about the trend in airsoft to increase the stock fps. With this trend perhaps future releases will bring us stock guns that shoot at higher rates . Anyway as stated all good information. Thanks!

Upgrading is like overclocking your computer. Everyone feels that they need the speed/leetness of upgrading.

1) it may make it faster/better. But it has the cost of killing the lifespan of the chip/gun alot.

2) It voids the warranty the second you open up the case/gun.

3) Do you really need that upgrade? It's like if you're word processing then why should you get that AMD X600, 3.4Ghz chip and 3gb of RAM? So stick with stock.

Closing statements. If it aint broke then dont fix it, and Keep the warranty just incase.

I upgraded my aeg for two reasons.

1) So I can shoot .25's like I do .2. This was done so I could shoot thru bushes and foilage easier and for better accuracy.

2) The extra range with .2 gives me a little advantage over people with stock guns. When they think they are out of range their not! I see there bb's coming and fall 15 feet on the ground ahead of me. I fire back and get a hit.

I just like knowing that if I see someone at 150feet behind a fir tree I can hit them. But this is just me.

The best advice I can give to the new players who ask about upgrading is to keep their guns stock. Less wear, less tear and has better re-sale value.

There is no "warenty" with airsoft so I wouldn't worry about it. Once you recieve your gun and it's in good shape...from that point out your on your own without a warranty. So upgrade away without worry about screwing up a warranty that you dont have.

This is my reasoning as well. I got fed up with seeing .2g BBs bouncing off dead grass and stuff even 50ft away with my stock MP5, so I upgraded with a PDI 150% spring, got me to about 360fps without hop up. Since the first game this year all we had access to was .2g BBs, had to make due with it and even after upgrading, .2g BBs are STILL just .2g BBs!!! Didn't seem to matter what speed they were going, it still took me a few bursts to get even just a couple through to get a hit. This is something I tell newish players that want their AEG upgraded, to switch to .25g immediately, then upgrade after to get them there faster. I found that .25g was a learning curve for me, since I was "learned" to use a lot of .2g BBs to get through brush, and had to UN-LEARN that bad habit when I switched to .25g. Only takes a fast burst for me now, if it even needs a burst. Most recent game at the Foxden (rep for being mostly thick ass'd brush) was a WW2 style game, each team was allowed two support guys that could use full auto, everyone else had to use semi auto only. I got lots of kills shooting through real thick brush with the set up I have now, some of them only took one round! Is a great way to learn gun control, as well as BB characteristics, shooting only on semi.

i use alot of stock weaponry and i find that when you make kills against people with upgraded weapons it gives you a feeling of accomplishment and lots of pride
but then again i have been beaten like a red headed step-child
