First of all it's not "just another M4" so stick it!

It's true they're based off the AR design but there's just something different and unique about them (in addition to the 90+ improvements Diemaco made to the original design). There are some amazing resources here for those wanting to jump into C8, C7 or L119/SFW builds. I thought it was time to bring it all together into one thread so we can show off our builds and help & inspire others to do the same!

I encourage the ASC community to post pics here of anything designed to replicate any C8 or C7 model including foreign export models such as the L119 SFW utilized mostly by British Special Forces. In the second post I will keep a list of reference links for anything related that might assist members in their endeavors. If you come across something related, let me know and I'll add it to the resource post.

Otherwise.. start posting and ENJOY!

So to start this off, my build has begun with a G&P C8A1 "Canadian Carbine" with Diemaco trades. This would be more accurate for say a C8 used by Canadian law enforcement as apposed to CF. Eventually I plan to have a lower engraved with CF proper trades but this is what I have for now. Call it "inspired by" as apposed to an exact replica (for now).

This is the evolution of my build in photos:

EDIT: I should add that my build is inspired by the newer C8 IUR model that seems to be embraced by CANSOFCOM. I also plan to build a standard C8 CQB 11.5" barrel configuration.

Here's my C7A1

Still need to get the trades done and get a better Elcan

Started with a G&G Full Metal GR-16 A3, Upgraded the gear box shell for a more structurally sound one but lost the blow back feature

Hard to think that this is what it originally looked like

C8CQB

C8CQB Build

The base gun is a G&G Top Tech GC7A1.

Starting off with the externals:
-D Boy "Ergo" trigger grip
-Unknown "VLTOR" stock
-Unknown brand suppressor
-Unknown KAC rail
-Unknown buffer tube
-JG gas tube
-Real Magpul RVG
-Zombie Stopper XPS-2 (swapped out the reticle for a regular holographic)
-Tokyo Marui PEQ-16 battery box
-JG front triangle sight
-Classic Army carrying handle
-King Arms steel CQB outer barrel

The only reason why it's two toned is because I didn't want to paint over the laser etched "trades". Other than the lousy trades, the no ambi-selector, ambi-mag release, Diemaco sling mount, and Diemaco carrying handle, I think everything is correct(?)

New paint:

Old paint:

Reeeeeeeally miss this rifle...ugh :'(

Here's my C7A2 build (G&G M16A3 MAX) from a few years ago.

I briefly had a GHK GBB conversion kit installed, but the recoil caused this lovely crack on the receiver.

Has since been mostly parted out.

willing to perform services in a dark alley that may or may not leave you satisfied for a title. GFE = 1, looks = 2, BBFS for an extra $50.

hi everyone!
i have 2 questions:

1. so is it confirmed that CANSOFCOM has adopted IUR for their c8s?
2. are they also using c8a3, and if so, will making it cqb version be acceptable?

Others might be able to answer your questions better but from what I've seen from a few stills and 2 separate videos, I'd say yes that's a fair statement. Although it's evident that it's a gradual replacement of the CQB upper as both appear to be in use currently. In the video of the CANSOFCOM demo at the Maple Leaf's Military Appreciation Day members can be seen with both:

I think it's safe to say you're going to find IUR's on A2, FTHB & A3 lowers. I imagine it depends on whether it's a replacement upper only or a full newly issued carbine. Replacement uppers would likely be matched with older existing lowers (A2 & FTHB) whereas full issued carbines I'm thinking would be paired with A3 lowers? MaybeStopCalling, any thoughts?

In terms of uppers, most IUR's seen in media so far have been 11.5" CQB length uppers. Having said that, Larry Vickers posted these pics of 15.8" versions IUR on his FB not long ago.

Thanks man! Seems like we're seeing quite an assortment of transitions then.

Why I ask is because I'm trying to build a C8A3 with my JTF2 black kit and might play a bit of CQB. That said originally I could've gone with the default SFW built, but because I'm planning to build my gun as relatively more new, therefore I'm making it an A3. If I'm playing indoors then CQB is seriously the better way to go, which is why I'm trying to confirm CANSOFCOM are using A3 + some as CQB.

I looked into several of the threads already on the forum, but I wanted to make sure what I'm doing remains relatively factual because I don't wanna turn my gun too exotic and then just calling it SOF-style to excuse laziness and lack of proper effort. While SOFs do have a lot of privilege to how they want to build their things, I feel if we're really trying to build a relatively accurate impression, we should at least put some decent efforts unless that was how you planned your gun to be in the beginning. Just my 2 cents :P

I was gonna use the RIS system at the moment, although hearing your response, now I'm starting to consider IUR too

No probs! Something to consider is that like US groups, it wouldn't be inconceivable for CANSOFCOM members to have one lower and both a CQB upper and a 16.8" upper and switch them out as needed. I can't confirm that, perhaps someone else here can. It would certainly make your build easier having an upper for CQB & one for field play.

What I'm doing now is that I bought a M4 with CQB length (10.5in or CQB-length barrel) and start the modification from there on. In other words I'll use a regular receiver + RIS + CQB length barrel. I hope this is still acceptable as CANSOFCOM C8s

I looked into IUR just now and realized it's too much of an investment now if I replace the totally new an unused RIS+ upper for a IUR, which is another additional $100-200 investment.
