Question GoPro Alternatives: Contour, Mobius, Xiaomi Yi, Sony, SJCAM?

Was reading somewhere elsewhere here on ASC that branded GoPros are overpriced in the 2018 market and have been overtaken by better-priced alternatives.

Read in other forums that Contour, Mobius, Xiaomi Yi, Sony, SJCAM all make cameras similar in function to GoPros, often for much less.

So here we are in April of 2018 - what are people using and why do you like what you use?

My agenda is simple. I've got a birthday party for my son coming up and I want to record some of the action for him and his friends to share, and I don't want to over-pay.

I use a Xiaomi Yi (1st gen, not the 4k one), and it's perfectly fine for my purpose. I'll also run 2 mobius (one as a "selfie cam" and one modded as a "zoom cam"), but that's completely optional. I can't really comment on the others, but I've heard good things about the SJCAM. Just make sure you don't get a fake one.

I got 2 old gopro sesion 4. they work pretty nice and how they are even cheaper. I wished I had 5 so I could remove the door and wire them to a battery.

I have an ancient contour that I still use its great for airsoft but im going to be getting a new camera for skiing because the snow glint at the top of the mountain is terrible in it, I would offload it for extremely cheap.

Thanks for suggestions. I've got a line on a used SJC4000 that I might check out.

Mobius.

Sound, quality and features are better than my ebay clone GoPro (not even sure of the name).

Battery life is better too. With the GoPro clone I may have to switch batteries for a period of 4 hours, but the Mobius' keep on going and then some.

Ended up spending a little extra on a SJ5000x Elite, still quite affordably priced at $135+HST.

I'll post some samples here when I take some video at Siege Airsoft's 3rd Anniversary on Sunday the 15th.
