The Canadian Forces do not use thermold magazines, but have switched to STANAG.

That's a nice start! Having a body of C8 on your AEG is the most important thing to start your build. Then, if you want an "issued" kit you must be replaced the stock by an old one (like the one on the XM177) with a rubber buttpad. A set of slim handguards (XM77 or M733 handguards works) A short barrel with vortex flash hider if you want a C8 CQB. A flat barrel (like the Car15) if you want a regular C8 or C8A1 or a heavy barrel if you want a SFW/FTHB/C8A2. Add some OD green to your C8A2 furniture if you want a C8A3. If you really want to make it as an original, you can look for the Tri-Ad rail and a Colt Canada BUS on this website.

[UPDATE] Well this is a dead post, but i'll just post an update of what I did with my M4 so far. At this point I feel it's sufficient, although there are still MANY things I could do with it.

Looks pretty good. Might I suggest moving the ELCAN forwards a little? It just looks a little off when that far back. Just my two cents.

How far forward or back the Elcan is depends on the eye relief of the individual shooter - mine is that far back on my work rifle.

Hmm. I never knew that. I guess you learn something everyday.

Wow, I didn't know that either. Is eye relief different from scope to scope? or in peoples eyes? I think that this could be attributed to the elcan replica I bought because I REALLY need to get close to the thing to have a full field of view.

For real optics its based on the person's eyes

Yea thats also why most C7/C8 look to actually have the BUIS infront of the optic.

Good job.

I just made something similar - in my case, a C7A2. Is that the Guarder butt pad? I used a Guarder, but it wasn't easy to locate.

The stock pad I got is made by UTG, you can find them on ebay. Unfortunately I got the one for a 6 position stock (regular M4) and not for my 4 position (Car15) stock, So its a tad too long.

Can you actually use the BUIS while looking through an Elcan? Or can you not see it at all?

The Guarder pad I use was actually designed to fit the old four position carbine stock. If you're interested, I ordered it from www.WGC.com

As for the back up sight, I have rarely seen members of the CF actually mount one on their weapon, especially not on a C8.
