I'm brand new to air soft and I'm Canadian. i am getting a crappy pistol for my b-day i was wondering if it is legal to use it at my cottage (1.6 acres approximate).
I was also wondering if it is legal to paint it ? (part of the body is clear)

If your playing on your property which is isolated from others I don't see what the harm would be. Just be very wary.

Yes you can paint it whatever colour you want. I'd recommend bright pink.

I feel that this would come down to more of a "what they don't know can't hurt them" aspect, as opposed to an actual Legal/Illegal aspect. As long as you're not brandishing it in open view of someone who doesn't know what it exactly is, then it's okay.

Like was stated, on your own property, out of the public's eye, and where everyone around knows what you're doing; then by all means have at'er.

Just be smart, use common sense and discretion. If your up in the middle of nowhere and noone can see you then its no harm to fire off a couple rounds and plink off come cans or pie tins. However if your cabin is clearly visible from roadways and walking paths then perhaps its not the greatest idea since people dont always know what airsoft is and can often mistake an airsoft gun for a real gun, especially if you plan to paint it.

That would be the best idea, let your closest cottage neighbors know that it's not a real pistol, just so they won't get jumpy and call the cops.

Make sure you check with the local bylaws regarding discharging of firearms as some municipalities also include air guns and airsoft guns in that whole mix.

Eye protection is key. Remember to wear some form of eye safety protection.

He's shooting at pop cans, or trees, utilizing a CT Pistol (presumably). I highly doubt that a ricochet from a .12gram BB fired from one of those will even break skin, let alone chip a tooth or getting a BB stuck in the lip.

Anyhow, use eye protection, and be safe as possible.

Or better yet. Good firearms discipline and don't discharge it while pointing it at your face. He's intending on plinking with it.

Better yet, Set up a catch system by draping a towel / Sheet behind your target area and collect your spent rounds and dispose of them properly.

Provided he can hit that sheet or towel I heard crappy tire guns are so accurate, you can shoot the asshole out of a sparrow from 100m away.
