I've been looking at pictures of Aussie troops for the past few days and I must say that the AUG is starting to grow on me. They also have some nice gear, most of it is customized in some way, esspecially for guys in 4RAR and SASR. Lots of south african kit floating around (the good real stuff not the replicas) which they modify like nuts. Their issue webbing lots pretty decent compared to our or to ALICE, actually looks like a mixture between brit and american.

Good luck. Your best bet is ebay as any local supplies are going to be pricey if you can find any.

There are a few sources. I got this Descam from Airsoft Club and modified it. The base cost was $250US for a knock off, but it got me a set of 2nd pattern desert for my collection:
Right now, this guy is selling more Descam (DPDU) Cordura of the sort I have already purchased from him: http://cgi.ebay.com/CANVAS-CODURA-UNCOATED-CAMO-NEW-BY-THE-PIECE-415_W0QQitemZ8240278195QQcategoryZ28159QQssPageNam eZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem 1 Yard is selling for about $13.00 US This is my DPCU set that I custom modified as well: I recently bought some nice Aussie subdued flags from Tim's Surplus for about $10 CDN a pop, but have not had time to put them on yet. As far as custom sewing for the bulk material, its not that hard to learn, and you can make some things that are truely impossible to get. This is some of the gear I have knocked together on my own: Good to see a growing body of other Auscam collectors. Good luck with yours. |

Thanks,
Once I had the HSGI Wasatch as a base, I just bought some inexpensive molle pouches off ebay to use as a model. Tore them apart and made patterns for creating my own in cordura auscam. Brought a few relatively inexpensive Auscam cordura items that I also tore apart for bulk material (I couldn't find Auscam 500D or heavier bulk fabric at the time). After a few experimental trials with less than fantastic results, I finally got the hang of making high quality Molle sets according to my own whim. Now I am fishing for a good HD sewing machine to work with heavier, multilayered layered webbing. I want to try to make a full copy of a Paraclete Interceptor OTV cutaway vest in Auscam with some of my own mods. ***Edit: I need to credit my wife with some of the Raid BDU mods to my DPCU and DPDU, namely the moving of the pockets. They were sort of a pain to get correct, but well worth the effort. i actually prefer a 4RAR commando raid bdu look to the SASR smock look in Auscam or Descam patterns. Just personal preference... |
