Real Steel accessories to Airsoft
I've never been to a single game, and I've never had a chance to closely examine a real M16 series gun, so I'm no authority by any means. But I've been thinking... I've got my CA Armalite M15, and everything on it has a solid build. All of it, that is, but the extendable stock. The piece wobbles slightly on the stock tube, and it's made of plastic that's relatively light compared to the rest of the gun. It feels a little strange when I shoulder the rifle.
Now the real deal - the M-Series 16 used in military application - has its stock made of Kevlar graphite and fiberglass. It's got a little more weight to it and I should be able to pad it up so it's pretty steady on the stock tube. I'm toying with the idea of taking a Crane stockpiece from a real M4A1 and modifying it to carry batteries for my Airsoft M15. Has it been done? And is it possible? More importantly, are these parts even available to the general public? This doesn't have to be strictly limited to extendable stocks for M-series 16 weapons. If this is possible, so are other applications.

Yep, it's been done, but the problem isn't with the stock, it's with your stock tube: If I recall, the buffer tube on a real Armalite is larger (read: wider) than an airsoft one. There were kits a while ago which converted buffer tubes to real steel size, but I cant remember if they were only for the Systema PTW...
EDIT: Here is something which was posted a while ago and explains the problem: http://www.airsoftcanada.com/showthread.php?t=663 |

Hmm. Can anyone think of any way around that problem?

... buy an airsoft crane stock. it will save you time and money yet still looks and preforms nicely!

I had one of those G&P stocks on my 416 and it's very nice, the battery is a monster, and there's minimal wobble.
I did take it off and swap to a Hurricane as I found installing the batter was a bit of a hassle. You can to pop the caps off, slide the battery halfway in, hook up the power to the gun, slide the battery in further, put the caps back on, then slide the stock on hoping the wires inside wouldn't train wreck. The Hurricane loads from the buttplate so much less hassle. |
