About magnifying scopes and quaility bbs and a bit on shooting like a pro!
Hey there everyone!
I just got the 4x ACOG on my m16. Boy this thing is sweet! I went out for a game today, man did I suck more than using my iron sight!.. From the look through my scope, the bb goes from the bottom to the crosshair, then falls. Feels like my bb is going in a big arc. What I'm having issue with is hitting my target... Seems like either my bbs flies over my target or my target is too far to hit, but can't really tell through my scope!.. Before I move onto scope I only use iron sight... Pretty much spray and pray or shoot one, follow my bb, then shoot some more to my target adjusting to where I shot the first one. Don't get me wrong, I do use my sight... For first shot aim, then it's back to following my bbs. Feels a bit like cheating, but it works. So any advise on using the scope? PS: the reason why I'm piss is, I saw off my front sight for this game... And now I might have to move back into iron sight kind of piss me off a bit! Also the money spent on that darn ACOG! Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated! PPS: not sure if this belong here or the noobies section, but I can take some harassment and it's about accessorizing my gun, so this feels right. Use the adjustments on the ACOG?

... You cut off your front sight?
Why on earth would you do that? Acog is ment to be used with a front sight up or down, and rear sight down. Example:

Here's what I mean:
 BB starts moving from position 1 to position 2. My guess is the top of the arc or something I don't know. From position 2 it'll drop back to position 1. I don't know how far out is the top arc. Is the only way to measure is get my measuring tape out and measure from target to target to see where the bb lands on my crosshair is how far my target it?... I'd say that's perfect. You want the center of the crosshair lining up with the top of the arc of your BB.

But here is the issue:
 I can't really tell if I need to move my scope a bit down for target "a" because sometime I can't see the path of the bb, so I don't know whither to move up, or down, or just a bad hop. Target "b" takes about 2-3 burst to hit.... Which is really bad... Target "C" can't really tell if it's target "a" or their too far for my bbs... Word of advice? |

Don't use a scope?
That's why I don't really like using magnified optics. Or really any optics at all.

There's no way you can get the BB to give you a flat trajectory. Zero the sight in at a distance which you determine to be your average engagement distance.

OK, step one get outside where you've got 100+ feet to play with.
Set your hop. Zero your irons, yes that means you need to replace the front sight you chopped off. Put the opic on and zero it at the same range you set your irons.

also, if your hop-up is properly adjusted, there is no "going up" curve.
See that your scope is not inside your barrel? Well that makes the BB enter the field of view of your scope, which seems to rise. It actually flies quite flat. You need to learn to evaluate your distances, both with naked eye and scope. That way you can know that if your scope is zeroed at 100' and the guy is at 75, you will have to aim a bit above his head. Same for targets further.

Thanks all who reply.
I do understand that my point of view is different than the point of view of the bb. But this answered my question. Quote:
 If I zero my sight in at 100' and I want to hit bulleye at 50', I'll need to aim higher. If I want to aim at bulleye at 150', I'll need to aim lower. Am I correct? Now that I understand it, I'll give it another shot. But if I still fell it's not working, magnifying scope is off my airsoft list. Again, thanks for the help! PS: on my ACOG, just under the crosshair there's numbers and line... First is a 2, first line from the horizontal line. Then a 6 for the 3rd line. Then there's one more. What does these number mean? |
