NO this is not replacing the original this is just a cheaper option for the guys that want the quality of a PolarStar without going through all the adjustments required on the current FE.
Plus there are a few other companies currently developing or are close to release dates for their drop in engines as well so Tippman will have a ton of competition to deal with.
I just see the drop in style more popular because guys can convert their favorite guns to HPA rather than buying having to buy the Tippman M4. I'm not saying it will be a bad gun I just think they are behind the curve and should of developed a drop in FE rather than an entire gun.
According to the description of the video, this "project x" should be comparable in price to the existing FE, so we can expect around 450$ to 550$, while the Tippman will retail at 399$. At that price I see a market for people who want an air based plateform straight out of the box.

I think the new Polarstar drop in is positioned to compete with the Wolverine drop in as well. We may see it under $350.

Is the Tippmann M4 confirmed for $399

Even if the next polar star was 300$, you still have to invest on the inner barrel and externals... Will you have a better product in the end that justify the investment? Probably... but you'll have to put it together yourself. Many players don't want to go down that road.

That's true; Polarstar gives 100% of their profit back to airsoft players while Tippman used their corporate profits to fund Piss Christ.

Tippmann which is now GI Sportz are focused 100% on paintball. They have heavy investment in paintball making equipment. How G.I. Sportz paintballs are made - YouTube The paintball industry is shrinking. If you have not noticed more and more paintball dealers are now offering a airsoft gun line, you don't see airsoft dealers selling paintball guns.

Airsoft is growing and GI Sportz is using the Tippmann past success to position a airsoft M4 which it is going to be out soon, but I have not seen any shooting or tech videos on it. Maybe it is a sign that paintball dealers will be pushing Tippmann M4's if paintball sales are down.

lol, again wait for it to release and then get your hands on one to pass judgment. Honestly not sure about the logic in some of these last posts.

Joined up so that I could keep an eye on this convo. I was looking into a DG, but now this makes that a moot idea. There's far more info here than any where else.

Also, what is the likelihood of Tippmann 98 Custom parts working in this? I.e. Trigger upgrades etc. also seems like it's going to need a heavier bolt to get a more realistic kick. That and the rail system will be the first thing to go.

Would also like to see better videos of it firing.

I will have one in my hands this coming weekend at a US event. I will do my best to get some video of the Tippmann M4 for you; shooting, internals, whatever they let me video.

Finally, good news.

Are you going to do the review with CO2 and HPA?

Try to bring one up Mav lol...I am interest in it because you don't need a battery to operate it as oppose to the Polarstar

I will try to shoot it with both 12g mags and an hpa remote line setup... it will depend on what Tippmann will let me videotape and how they have it set up for me. I have asked to do a full review video and am waiting for a response.
