The "Got Wood?" Thread

For metal, I sand any glossy finish out of the coating, then soak the part in hot water with TSP, available at Canadian Tire for like $3. Then clean off the smut that inevitably coats the item with a plastic scrubby, scrub brush, and dish detergent. Change the water and TSP often. It can take a while, even a day, but works for me every time.

Don't like the APS wood stock original finishing even poor quality, sanded out the paint, hot burned graphics and re-stained and re-painted. Now it looks a lot better....

Well done. What did you use to seal the wood?

Thanks chaz your help and tips for the hot burning, much appreciated!
I sealed it with Minwax Fast-Drying Polyurethane (clear semi-gloss) in 2 layers.

Finally got this full size wood stock from octagon airsoft in Hong kong. Need a bit sand to make it a perfect fit, now looking for a right color stain to match the front hand grip.

Total rebuild and redo I did on an S&T Mosin Nagant. Sanded off that purple plastic shit, reshaped the stock and body, lowered stock arch by 1cm, removed brass caps, sanded to base wood, restained, aged.
Total time: 5ish days.

How did you do the lettering on the gun? Was it applied dry decal lettering or did you paint the letters then remove the paint from the surface leaving the paint in the recessed areas?
Excellent Nagant could pass for the real deal not an airsoft gun.... well done
