When I get my radio set up properly I'm going to try that set up. Does the headset mess with your hearing at all? I'm worried I'll miss subtle twig snaps and chatter around me when I'm snearing around

Even with a less "encompassing" headset, yes, many people notice a loss in sound heard. This problem is also present with helmets like the M.I.C.H., CG64, P.A.S.G.T. or any traditional combat helmet, the trade off is more protection, based on coverage, for the wearer from shrapnel or debris.

These headsets aren't really meant for people doing regular front line tasks. Their popularity in airsoft stems from their use by Special Forces types, people who play a whole different "game" from that of conventional forces. Most pictures I've seen of people wearing these also tend to put them in a "Direct Action" role. They're generally not sitting in a trench for days or performing night time sentry operations in the middle of a forest.

I've tried both real and clone headsets at one point or another, for the real ones, I LOVE the fact that they kill loud, sharp noises that could do hearing damage but still allow you to hear talking and regular noises.

The Ztac headset I run does impare ones ability to hear quite a bit, even more so when they were on their original headband. Now that I've moved them to the helmet adapters I can run them clicked out, not so snug with my head allowing more sound into my ear, or in the back possition. Last time I gamed them I had the mic side down snug to my ear, and the other side up, leaving my right ear unrestricted.

How do you like the EOG counterweight? Is that the short version?

Yes it is the short version, it does its job while looking cool and staying out of the way. Would recommend.

No, it is a blinding green light or IR only.
If you want a red strobe the CORE HEL-STAR will work well and look tacticool. Or a red V-Lite.
