The tone is completely wrong for this type of letter (which will fail to be read by anyone with any clout, by the way). Making a personal appeal will simply not bring about any change.

There is so much more info that letter could use, and the info that is in it is poorly organized. It does need some revision.
Also, unless Stockwell Day is your local MP ((I got the minister of Defense Gordon O'Connor, but I doubt he could help much.)) This letter will really have little affect, if any. You might get a small response if he was your local MP because all the talk of elections. And with the Liberals making all these back-room deals for upcoming elections, Conservatives are going to be keeping their ears open. A letter or calling for amendments to the Customs would require a large group of people to be behind it. But since that horse has been beaten to death... a couple thousand times.

not only does it need more info, it needs correct info.
first read the Criminal Code, and then the Firearms Act. These would define a firearm and a replica firearm (which are two VERY different things in the eyes of the law) |

you see, this is the reason i showed you all this letter, i wanted you to voice your opinion and if you truly want this letter to be proper, you can always revise it, or write one your self. I knew it wasnt the greatest letter, and i never truly expected a responce of any value because it was just me sending it in, but if we were all to send letters in, as previously mentioned, they might just read one of them. So i would more then welcome the facts you think i need. And to respond to some of you, i HAVE read the criminal code, and firearms laws, i have done so about 6 times now, and as Amazing KG3 said, atleast i am taking action, no matter how futile, instead of sitting on my ass and just shooting down any idea that others have put up.

It is a badly written letter with the wrong approach. You refer to others who have the same problem you risk the whole issue being painted with the same brush. A letter like this, its format, tone and style make an impression on the reader, just like how you dress and speak can make an impression on someone you are meeting for the first time. I do not think this letter will make an effective impression that will lead a bureaucrat or elected official to action. LD

I never thought this letter would be the one to change the world, but its a start, and instead of picking apart one letter, make your own if you think you are so much better and stop doing nothing, and start doing something.

Again, read what's already been done. There was an options paper submitted by very experienced shooters, a lawyer, a policy analyst, etc. Not much has come of it.

That letter is full of uncertainty (you're asking him questions in the letter that you should be able to figure out yourself?) as well as full of false information, such as guns in Canada needing/having blaze orange tips. Also, you seem to think that because an airsoft does not shoot above 500 fps it should not be considered a firearm. Guess what? IT ISN'T considered a firearm. Completely the opposite. That's one of the REQUIRED attributes of a REPLICA. God dammit, the tone and content in that letter makes it out to be a very badly formed, low intelligence forum post, not a letter to a government official.
Try again. Actually, don't try again. It hurts. |

Here's a link to the Options Letter that was sent out a few years back, could serve as a good template to what should be submitted as a letter to MP's and other goverment officals:
