Hey guys. Got my kit today.
I'm curious if you guys have any of the following parts handy: I need the spring and plug that retains the rear receiver pin, and the rear receiver pin itself. Turns out it was lost at some point. |

Turns out they weren't the right parts. Thanks anyway!
Parts 68, 69 and 71 are what I'm after if anyone has them handy. Thanks! |

You can use the real Armalite springs and pins. The spring in particular is way nicer than the WE one. I bet it'll be under $10 at the counter as long as you don't loose control.

You can also order from Brownells and pay $5 shipping for those parts if that floats your boat instead.

I agree, Brownells is much more pleasant to deal with and will ship you pretty much ANYTHING you want, so long as you do the paperwork required

That's the issue with such great prices and service... you buy one part, next thing you know your GBBR is half real steel and you're broke. |

You guys don't like Wolverine? They've always treated me well.
He is located minutes away from their location.

I spent a good six to eight hours tediously dremelling and fitting my upper receiver to a WE lower, and it was worth it. That feeling of satisfaction when everything fits together without wobble... |

If you get one of the kits it might come in a handy box.

Open bolt kit installed. Was able to do everything, including a single magazine in under 20 minutes. Pretty fun! Thanks for the help guys! I'll have to go pay Wolverine a visit. I'm curious, they have an M15a2 upper (Fixed carry handle) and I've heard that you can use real steel uppers on WE guns. Is this true? And what modifications are needed to do so? I think an m16a2 or FHC M4 would be pretty cool. I'm looking to get rid of the KAC style rail if anyone has slim m4 grips, front sights, pins, etc handy for a trade. |

Off the top of my head...
- You need to machine cuts in the receiver or cut down the trigger box around the valve striker to fit the upper onto the lower. - You need to cut two slots where the barrel nut screws on to index the barrel and hopup assembly - You need to machine down a rib where the bolt catch sits so it can engage fully. - You need to file down the spring housing on the dust cover to close the dust cover. The two slots on the assembly is the most tedious part, but much easier than before. Quote:

WE M4 Real Steel/Airsoft Build
http://www.airsoftcanada.com/showthread.php?t=122347 RA-Tech has a new bolt catch, less material missing from underside looks pretty similar to the mod I did to the closed bolt catch. ("stock open bolt" is from the RA-Tech OB kit) can rack an empty mag and the catch will positively engage every time |
