I am toying around with the idea of cutting the G19 slide also, like I did with the 17, but not sure if I can find the time...

Racingmaniac, you cut the front serrations yourself on your g17???

yep:
Done from a Guarder steel slide. Bought a end mill cutter thats similar in size to the rear serration, kinda measured and drew out the spacing and used the mill at work...afterwards send the slide out to get it Duracoated... |

Powder coating probably lasts longer, but the process is more involved and may or maynot work so well if you do aluminum stuff. Duracoat is just basically tougher paint. You can do it yourself if you buy the kit and have the equipment to do it. I just don't have that stuff. Duracoat also works for basically every thing, you can paint plastic also...

so is durocoat thicker than powder coat?
I've only gotten one slide powdercoated. a 1911 slide and seemed to have messed with the fitting of the internal mechanisms.

You should always mask with powder coat. It does go on thick.

I remember a nutnfancy video where he did that to his 1911. That ended in many headaches. |

ah i see.
Can't speak for durocoating but I can't imagine It can't be any worse than powder coating the innards of the slide. My 1911 slide couldn't fit the BBU and rear sight after it was done. Many many many hours were spent on sanding away a pretty expensive paint job....

Ive got some experience with airbrushing duracoating. If you do it properly, prepare the surface to be painted sufficiently, the finish looks really nice.
