The extra O-ring is just a replacement in case it crosses your threads and cuts it up.
Thanks for the info and Merry Christmas!

Whenever seeking technical help of any kind, it will help greatly if you identify what brands and models you are referring to, so that the people who help you have a better idea of what it is that you're referring to.

So what was it that fixed it?
its a 5KU set and I really did not fix it I just put all the parts together in the slide and placed them on the frame. its OK I guess but the outer barrel and hop up don't fit snug.
the hop up moves around the outer barrel allot and theres nothing to hold it from doing it.the build is a TM hi capa 5.1 if that helps.

I haven't used 5KU before, so I couldn't provide any help on it. In this case, some pictures of the problem in question would probably go a long way more than words can.

I'm rather curious as well. Why do some kits come with a metal/rubber o-ring?

Those o-rings are to be mounted at the base of the outer barrel where the compensator attaches. It is covered by the sheathe once it is fully closed. It keeps the sheathe from falling off the base.

The metal ring acts as a bushings to stabilize your inner barrel within the outer barrel. This gives it a more precise fitment, resulting in more consistent shots. Usually, these are precision fit for specific inner barrel brands, as there is a +/- 0.01mm variance in outer diameter across brands.

So you put the metal ring over the inner barrel before inserting it into the outer barrel? Or does it go where the compensator threads into?

Correct. It is to shim the inner barrel to the outer barrel. At least that's how the shims I've requested are to be used. I don't know if other resellers are packaging their kits with a ring for another purpose. A photo would speak a thousand words.

Sorry, I was not clear in describing the above picture. That picture is for o-ring placement only.

Thanks for the clarification. I'm just wondering though, whether it yields more consistent shots with the inner barrel "sticking" to the outer barrel (using the shim) or just letting it free float. Even in a fixed barrel setup, the compensator & outer barrel move a bit as the slide cycles especially when it slams forward, which in turn can alter the inner barrel if the shim was in place?
