Good job! Pix?!

Wow, i really want to see the picture of the lug and and the outer barrel mod
The outer stay fixed, will that increase accuracy ?

thanx

It is a common misconception that a moving/tilting outer barrel will reduce accuracy. This is FALSE. As long as the lock-up fitment of the chamber to the slide's ejection port, AND the fitment of the barrel muzzle to the slide muzzle is very tight toleranced, then each and every shot should be accurate and consistent.

In fact, by the time the outer barrel and slide even begin their cycle of movement, the projectile (real bullet, or BB) has already long left the barrel, and therefore, concerns about a moving barrel affecting accuracy are unfounded.

The real reason why you want this is to avoid any "shaking" on the gun. No clicking-clanking as the slide cycles so you can stay on target easier. It should also make slide cycle faster.

Up to a point I guess, for CAPS my gun(when it works) still kicks my ass, so I gain way more performance by improving myself than finding minute advantage on my gun. As long as I can hit a popper a room distance away and might sight is sighted in for that I am good to go...

Here is my quick DIY rear sight that I read from a japanese article. The reason why I did this mod is 2 fold:

1. To save money
2. I prefer the 2 rear dots to be closer to the notch. If you look at the SD rear sight, the holes are farther from the notch.

2 holes drilled on the rear sight

I used a lighter to make a mushroom on one end. I made each mushroom on each rod approximately the same size so it looks even. I mushroomed the other side once it was placed in the hole.

When its all done, this is how it looks..

I prefer the front sight to be brighter than the rear, as the rear one only helps as a guide only. The front sight helps me to acquire my target easily.

very nice. I did this mod about 2 years back, I left a bit more of the fiber sticking out to the front though, just to take in more light.

Looks good! I personally prefer a different (opposing) colour for the front sight in order to have a higher contrast sight picture. It allows for faster target acquisition and reduces dot confusion. But good job!

Where did you source the rods?

i paid $5 and had more than enough to cut the rods. They gave me like 4-5 sticks I think... its pretty cheap, i cant remember where, i think it was from ehobby. But i practiced a bit first when using the lighter to make sure the mushroom head is smooth with no burns and matches with the other rod..

EDIT: It is called the "Shooters Design Optical Fiber Set (PIR155)"

Good idea.

You can get real steel Lightning fiber optic rods for $10... they're the brightest fiber on the market, and you get 12" of it for that $10. Available colours are red, green and yellow. They can even go down to 0.040".

I'd follow Daiviet's recommendation to extend the rear fibres further towards the muzzle, as the sides of fibre optic rods capture as much light (if not more) than the bulbed ends. I don't notice it as much with airsoft rods, but with rods like the Lightning rods, the sides are coated with a sheathing layer that increases the refraction index when compared to the core. It makes the dot look like it's almost on fire. LOL. Basically, the longer your rods, the brighter the dots.

on the other hand, the way you have it set up can work well too, especially if you're not placing contrasting colours between front and back. The brighter front dot will be easier to distinguish from the rears. To each his own. I know plenty of guys who swear by irons only.

This isn't suppose to look pretty.

Whether the outer barrel tilts or not doesn't affect the accuracy, because like Brian mentioned the BB leaves the gun before the blowback action occurs. I did this mod simply to reduce the recoil.

In automotive racing, it's often down to the drivers' race. However, that doesn't stop people from modding/tuning the cars, just like in airsoft.
