PTW ar supposly the best airsoft gun you can get. though buying the best gun right away may take away ur need to fufil your mp5 fetish or ak fetishes. in other words it may ruin the collecting part

It's no problem it's just first I hate that guys face and the bullshit that he spews. Did you know he has a "BFL" and a real gun license and can ship to Canada? Uhhh.... actually no, see the receiving party needs the BFL and having a real steel license means shit all in the world of airsoft.

Also he has successfully melded springs together to achieve higher FPS? And that he competed in a tournament called "Blue Noise" where there are no FPS caps?

Really though whats your budget? The possibilities are limitless with the right amount of green.

If you're like most people, a $350-500 gun is great for starting out.
If you have the green then a $2500 PTW is in your range if you so choose.

Also you should hold your horses. You don't need all those guns. I didn't get a GBB until about 6 months after I started playing.

I run a primary (5 mags), a backup pistol (1 mag), Phantom (Pantac) RAV vest, flecktarn BDU's, a sykes mask, ballistics, and hiking boots. That's really all you need.

Not really, a lot of stuff people get end up being shipped through the mail. I don't know of any stores that sell BB's in the K/W area, but if your able to make a bit of a drive, Army Issue in Mississauga sells them, along with a fair amount of gear, including boots and goggles. He's right on lakeshore, pretty much the corner of Lakeshore and Hwy. 10/Hurontario/Main St.

Still have questions, eh? LOL

When they're working...PTW's are a dream to shoot. But their Achillies' heel is their reliance on 3 electronic boards. If any one of those boards blow (under/over current, moisture, whatever)...you're in for some pricey replacements. I've had very good luck with motors...but other haven't...and they're expensive too. But when they work...you'll won't want any other electric airsoft gun. When they fail...you want to chuck it against a tree.

By the time you're done (within reason)...a PTW setup (rifle, batteries, cylinders, mags, bits and pieces) will cost you around $2500 +/- $500. Again, there are some great buys on the Classifieds right now.

"Regular" AEGs...are just plain predictable and in a reliability/price/break&fix comfort zone for a lot (I'd say the majority) of airsofters. Stick a battery and a mag of BBs in and it just works. Or if it fails...there's parts available everywhere cheap-ish and there's lots of guys who can fix 'em/help.

For someone just starting out...I'd recommend a solid build "common" platform (i.e. AK or M4) AEG. Hicap mags suck ass...get 10 mid cap mags and you'll be able to play every type of scenario/game/field around.

Pistols are a whole different thing. There's lots of favourites out there. Some manufacturers put out consistently great models (i.e. TM)...and others have some good ones but some lemons. I've found that a lot of guys just don't get how to fix/repair gas blow back pistols...and with good cause, because many of them are overly complicated.

(Personally I think DE pistols are too cumbersome to hold/use...but whatever floats your boat...getting whatever colour/flavour you want is a big part of the fun of airsoft, right?).

203 Launchers are so-so practical. A hell of a lot of fun to shoot though.

Don't forget to check out a shotty...they're fun. SAW's, LMG's and gas blow back rifles too....

There's about a dozen threads written specifically about gear as well...

Have fun! (waiting to for the AV to kick in sucks doesn't it? )

Take that video off immediately. Read about that guy and his "melded spring and Blue Noise Tournament" deal.
Sorry to zombie this part of the discussion but can someone direct me to the thread for the whole melded spring fiasco? I really want to read it =P.

Don't worry, I think the RedDragon guy's as much of a douche as you think he is.

Greens is definitely no problem. But from the post below, it seems that a PTW has "tons" of electronic gears, which seems to be a bit hard to replace. And I have no idea what kind of conditions/environments/treatments the gun is going to get, So I think I will just stick with a CA/TM and then upgrade the internals.

I'm going to go to an event tonight and see what kind of guns/equipments other people are going to bring. I guess it would look a bit weird if I came with enough guns and ammos to start a small army.

Hmm... That's sorta expected, seeing how this is a small "city." As to BB's I think I'm going to buy a box of the premium BB's and then won't have to worry about it.

Does anyone actually carry/bring/use Saw's and LMGs in airsoft? (I can't imagine the number of BBs that they will use) But then... -> http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_inf...oducts_id=4514

(How much would an all metal LMGs cost from the classifieds? yes yes I know i'm not AVed)

Waiting for AV sure sucks. But then again, I'm in a smaller city, so can't complain much. Can I eh?

I've pretty much seen all the airsoftgi.tv's video reviews. and a couple of youtube videos.

And I was wondering:

1. Has anyone played a night airsoft game? if so, how do you see the opponents? and (I know this is on the forums, and I have read it.. well sort of) does equipments like lasers, IR lasers, NVG, and trackers help much?
or should airsoft be played during the day?

2. CQB vs UO, which is funner? and more common, personally, I I think I would prefer indoor CQBs. But I don't know if there are any facilities in my little "city"

Cheers

Yes plenty of people run SAWs .. they are costly to build and maintain but those who like them like a lot of them.. not where you should start off though

Night games are great, One of the craptastic parts of AS games in the field are that the effective range of AS guns is so short that you can not actualy get a very realistic simulation of combat.. people can pretty much stand in the open and ignore you as long as they stay out of range ...

At night due to the poor night vision that humans have the engagement ranges shrink to be more likley to be within the effective range of the weapons.. this creates a more realistic combat simulation, and more intense experience. NV is obviously useful but out of the question for most players, stealth and careful action rule the night.

CQB vs Field .. people drop down on both sides of that..

in my opinion CQB is a more intense experience and a good combat simulation as all action takes place within the effective range of the weapons in use.
Mistakes result in being hit.

Field play.. is less satisfying to me due to the fact that people hide behind bushes... and conduct themselves in ways that would be pretty much instantly lethal in a real combat situation. Its a poor simulation and so a less effective training tool

Woot! talked to TankDude tonight, and hoping that the mods/admins would add the AV stats soon.

Yeah, speaking of SAWs, I saw one person with them tonight. Would be cool to have one :/

I think indoor CQBs are definitely better... less mosquitoes
