The material on the massif ACS isnt under armor, its wicking, but not under armor. Under armor is flame unfriendly run of the mill spandex.
Anyway I got a CP multicam ACS from UR-tactical, it's really nice, stitching is good all around and it definitely works. You can find Massif ACS on ebay for 200, or 135 shipped for the UR tactical ones AND they're real ACU. |

The only thing on the ACS flame resistant, is the sleeves.

Taken right from their site:
"created with three of Massif's most innovative flame-resistant fabrics" "The ACS passes rigorous flame testing including the ASTM D 6413/F2302-03 for vertical flame resistance." "Army Combat Shirt Features: - Full flame-resistant construction" I don't think a company would lie 3 times on their product page without being sued for millions by the US army lol |

Well, I can't say I know if the flame resistant material works first hand.

I imagine it would be flame resistant - while we gotta take note nothing is truly resistant to flame. Underarmour material was banned because it melts and burns into the skin causing burn injuries on top of other injuries. In fact UA was banned in the army and marines after some reserves who served in fire departments back home explained that their departments did the same thing after bad experiences with UA and that merino wool undergear was introduced because of wool's natural resistance to open flame.
There's a writeup on Massif products on Military Moron's page. From there we can probably see why they were chosen as contractors to produce the combat shirt. http://www.militarymorons.com/gear/FRclothes.html |

Good find. I'll say it again though, these were made specifically for flame resistant ware. Originally to be used with Flight Crews who are more prone to flame related accidents.
If the UA is melting to peoples skin, I'd hate to wear Multicam on a patrol in Iraq. |

You know, if you wait about a year you'll find them for $5 all over the place.

I wouldn't mind paying like 89.95 at a surplus store or somewhere around that range. But, $130+ limits me to only purchasing ONE or Two as of right now. |

Yes, $5.
Been to any surplus store next to a major US military base recently? ACU stuff is going cheap as the soldiers come home from deployment and ditch the stuff. The shirt will be no different, if you don't mind surplus, and it'll be cheap because it's essentially underwear. Also, you're not deployed (wait, you're in Texas...are you in the service?). If you WERE deployed, you'd be issued a couple. You're playing airsoft. Even on 24 and 48 hour games, I don't bring multiple uniforms. Why would you need more than one? |

I'm not in the Service yet. I will be next month, I have a hand full of GI ACU Items that I can take with me, if in the case I need it. I like being prepared. Even if I am playing Airsoft or just wearing it, it is my purchase regardless. I live in Texas it gets pretty freakin hot down here, I'm not saying it's Iraq. It's still a good product to have to wick away sweat as opposed to the Wicking T-shirt.
Also, they are not issued to Everyone. Even if they are, some people can't use them on the FOB/COB/COP.

Only gear I've bought is MC for my loadout. My unit allowed me to wear my MC gear. I am in a somewhat specialized unit though (without going into detail a LRRS style unit). I was also issued two of these combat shirts. They stink so bad half the guys stopped wearing them. I suck it up because it feels great. But I've washed these bad boys at least 100x since I've gotten them and they still smell like rotten fish. Would I ever spend $135+ for them out of my own pocket? HELLLLLL NO. It's not even worth surplus. I'm telling you, the smell will never ever EVER disappear. Maybe the heat here in Afghanistan just emphasizes the smell. And you were right in that assumption that we are not allowed to wear these shits around the FOB unless it's clear you had just taken your gear off and didn't have a change to put a regular top on. Thanks to the CSM. |
