Looks good! I haven't seen that slide set in almost 6 years now. I personally love the Shuey design... surprised not as many people are on it!

Haha yeah, prog4 brought it back so expect to see more around! Being a big fan of Shuey and hybrid barrels, I couldn't pass this opportunity.

The only thing about ported slides is the barrels that come with it aren't ported with it. It looks wrong.. But I love that set up!

He has a hybrid ported barrel though....the side ports are more for weight I think...

And yes, hybrid barrels are always awesome...

The cuts in the Shuey slides aren't for porting. As RM said, it's a weight reduction feature.

If you want matched porting, see the BCG series.

That set can fit a 7" with room to spare.

Too long... for what? They're most definitely used in IPSC.

I assumed racers will use something more maneuverable.

Like... a Detonics? LOL.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, longer pistols have an easier natural pointability. This is the ability to point the gun towards a target without having a solid sight picture, and still be able to land the shot relatively close to the target. The longer length lends a longer sight radius. It's like being able to snap shoot with a rifle without looking directly down the sights.

There is merit to your concern, and is why some builders use shorter length barrels. As an example, the BCG ProSx uses a 4.5" barrel to bring the overall length closer to a Government length once compensated. With the light weight STI ThunderComp, it handles much more like a Government length, despite still being almost 2" longer. The length is kept, to maintain the above-mentioned natural pointability.

What is the most common length that you see in open gun race in Canada? I'm torn between power and minimal recoil

Barrel length? 4.3" - 5.1". There are some variants in between.

For what it's worth, recoil can be controlled and minimized regardless of how long the barrel/slide is.
