That's why you don't have success fixing your gun buddy. That idea is just horrible.

Show me a pic, I dont want something like that to go to waste.

I know nothing about fixing guns but from what you've described happening to your GBB, JBweld really really doesn't sound like a "fix"...

If you saw all his other guns, you'll instantly see his affection towards JB Weld...

You'll also understand why none of them work anymore. LOL

I give up on this guy, seriously. You aren't re-assembling it correctly.

i can't take seeing a 5-7 getting raped in JBweld... fuck, might as well just give it away to some hobo if you're going to fuck it up.

no, the problem is while it cycles the barrel is getting hit with the shock forces from the slide and blowback, and making it bounce forward, elongating its mounting holes and it will fail eventually, so some sort of adhesivel like teflon tape, glue, JB weld, or even locktite, that will stop the barrel from moving back and forth on the now worn out mount, will make it last longer, I dont see why the mere mention of JBweld sparks so much horror, It is a viable solution

And what do you mean im not re assembling this properly, it started to mess up, THEN I took it apart, not the other way around

anyways, something like JBweld would be a LAST RESORT
but since i removed the material that was preventing the chamber from closing properly and put it all back together, it doesnt seem to have gotten any worse, so we'll see how it ends up

Hmm, Skladfin, can you give any input? Did your hop up unit have any burrs on it that prevented it from closing properly? Any sign of wear on the barrel?

If this is actually the cause, then that's a simple fix. Still, very disappointed in TM for a slip up like this. Seriously... De-burring? Come on.

Also, on reading bablefish translated french, JBWeld does seem like a very viable solution.

its not de burring, the hole is being squashed by the pins, and metal cant just compress, it spreads out in another direction, in this case, outwards, pushing the hopup apart

I'll try to help as much as I can on this one.

Now I'm really not sure what these guys are talking about when they say "Pins", since there aren't any pins used in the hop up unit.

Personally I didn't have this problem myself. However being an accuracy whore, what I did was, I taped a layer of normal clear tape on the outer surface of the outerbarrel, shown in this pic

where the holes are. This eliminated any movement between the outer barrel and inner barrel. Therefore holding everything snug in place without any wobble.

I am not sure if doing so PREVENTED my hop up from shredding itself, as I have not experienced any similar problems to nooblord's. However taping does seem to give a good enough shock absorbant ability(Preventing the mount from sandpapering the hop up unit).

For the record:
I fired about 8 mags worth before taping the outer barrel. At which point I noticed no wear or tear.
After taping the barrel, I fired about another 20~25 mags worth. At which point there is still no sign or wear.

I hope that helped.

Ok, so then it's the outer barrel movement that causes stretching and bulging around the holes which then make it too thick for the hop up unit to close properly? And shimming (or otherwise securing) the barrel to prevent movement may or may not keep this from happening?

That is, the part that's causing interference is the deformation on the outer barrel, not any feature on the halves of the hop up and barrel housing, yes?

I guess I'm satisfied for now. I'll have to take a look at my own once it arrives.
